    Speculation is what has driven the price of oil up... anytime theres a percieved threat to the supply speculators jump on it and run up the price. Its bullshit! Oil speculators are paranoid fanatics.

    Not tax (Here in the US)
    Not actual supply
    Not the Government

    Speculation is the reason for higher gas prices

    in 2008 it went from ~$4.25 a gallon to ~$1.75 a gallon almost over night with no significant change in supply... it was the fear that consumers would reduce consumption that scared speculation negative

    Well speculation has more to do with the rapid up and down of the oil market... the gradual drive up is a Economic/political phenomenon... but the rapid highs and low fluctuations in the market are definitely caused by speculation

    Hadn't thought about that angle. How does it benefit you in Canada? Do residents of a province own the resources? That's how it benefits us in Alaska, wasn't aware that it was similar there.
