I need to do this at some point. I can feel and see a lot of play on my CV if I move it up and down in the diff. I've been putting it off for a while but I'm pretty sure I'm just running on borrowed time now.

That is what we did on mine and it went much easier without any problem.

In all honesty, you won't really need to because the new seal should still fit in without any issues, my mechanic did it anyway. I asked him why and he should "just in case" but he has done them without the putting them in the freezer. The bushing......most certainly though.

Why don't people replace the outer CV seal?
Seems like it sits on the outer CV joint or on the spindle, where the axle connects to it
    to protect from brake dust

So ecgs is out of stock. Yukon makes one, I’ve ordered it. I hope it’s the same, pulling it apart when my new shocks come in this week. My vibes/rumble strip doesn’t stop though when I put it in 4wd. But while it’s torn down I figured I’d put it in anyway. Has anyone used the Yukon bearing?

ECGS bushing is on the way. I will be making my own puller. Can someone tell me what the OD and ID of the bushing is? Better yet, anyone have a drawing of the tool?

Purchased a Yukon bushing and it seems to sound worse then the needle bearing. Anyone ever pulled a bushing to replace with a ECGS bushing? I tried and it seems impossible. Hoping to not have to pull the carrier to press it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That sucks. Very sorry to hear that. My ECGS was pretty tight going in but it seems that the bushing thickness should be enough for the puller to work. What's happening when you try to pull the Yukon?

I actually bent the tool trying to pull it. I have another front dif so I could run that until I pull the current carrier. Just seems like a pain in the a$$.

Did you bend the nut that goes up inside or the bar that stays outside? The bar would be pretty easy to remake (but remake thicker) stronger or use a steel with a higher strength. FYI, a thicker bar might require a longer piece of threaded rod (which I believe is 1/2-13).

I actually broke the nut part in half on one of my tools.

Never heard of anyone pulling the Yukon bushing. But in truth, it looks identical to the ECGS bushing.

I have heard of one person pulling the bushing. They use a blind bearing puller.
Such as the one in the link below. I’m not promoting the set below. I’ve actually got a bit picky with my tools lately. I try to but the best I can afford.

That just might work. I will have to give that a try. Probably pull the front dif to do that one though. Thank you for the help.

Yes, mine is failed at 47k miles on it. Vibration on the highway, leaking past seal, visible wobble and movement. I don't love the way Toyota does it and ECGS bushing did tighten things up. The factory Toyota needle bearing lasted 78k, although only about 36k of it was on the new suspension. I don't have that much lift, about 1.5", and 265/75R16 tires. So I'm not really even pushing it too much. Hard to say it really makes much difference in maintenance intervals, dunno. I'm going back to a factory part this time to see but I'm afraid that I've overlooked it too long and hope the CV hasn't started to wear.
