That's what I'm saying, I work 6am to 430pm mon-fri. I miss my 9/80 schedule of having every other Friday off and working 7 to 430 and the Friday I would work would be 7 to 330

Even in office I could listen to my headphones. Mostly music, but some podcasts (wrestling) as well. They were 2-3 hours so it was a nice way to pass time.

A prior coworker did Providence to Quincy..not for long though, ended up getting a different job. This was early 2000s so WFH wasn't there, but he said short term it wa better off financially than buying a house here.

There's a whole car scene in Japan with exhausts like like, as well as some other pretty wild styling.

I'm the odd one out. I'd way rather 5x40 than 9x80

7-3, get home at 3:15 every day and have 3:15 onward for whatever every day all summer. My old company toyed with 4x40 and I told them to pound sand. 8-6, get home at 6:30, more tired, can't do anything - no thanks. If you're locking me into 40h/wk, for me it's 5x40. I'd rather have the time every day than 1 whole every other Friday.

Oh I mean, financially these things can make sense, but the human factor is no thank you. I got an offer back in 2018 ish to go to the west bay every day - from East Prov. That means about an hour each way + traffic + bridge + commute time lost. Way better $$$ but the time and frustration sink was a big no thank you.

Early 2000s and staying on the south shore, that's not that bad. I can respect that - but man, some people do that nowdays with 10x the people, and straight up into the city instead of staying in the south shore :puke:

I'm on a 4/10 schedule now and I love it, id much rather have Friday in its entirety than 2 extra hours each day where I'm still probably too tired to actually do anything lol. To the point I'd probably find another job if they tried to change it, some techs work 5/10s and there's definitely a kind of "why aren't you working that schedule" thing in the air... because I value my time more than some OT that's why :luvya:

To each their own, all these different schedules exist because it's not a one-size-fits-all thing! I'd probably be fine with 4x10 in winter, but not summer. Also my job isn't physical, so it doesn't make me physically tired at the end of the day

:spy: You'll be here soon! (We don't get OT....)

My old job used to give a comp day for doing a weekend shift coverage. Either 7-noon or noon-5, you cover and supervise, everyone kinda does their own thing and doesn't need supervision though. Got a ton of work done, and banked a comp day (expired within 12 months). I'd do a ton in the winter, and have a ton of time off in the summer :D they did away with that though. And I left anyway.

My place is experimenting with a 4x10 schedule for some people, but I don't see it working out. It's too bad because I'd rather have a 3 day weekend. For a good chunk of the pandemic, even though I'm technically 5x8, I was stuck doing a 5x10+ schedule due to lack of quality help. I miss being home at 1pm, but I don't miss getting to work for 3am or earlier.

Pretty much! I was also not on the T3 management level, so I wasn't required to do it, but I'd fill in whenever someone wanted to not do one in the winters. F it, it's 12 degrees out and dark, what am I going to be doing?

Then, june comes around, 80 and sunny on a Wednesday - Hey, boss, gotta go to block island for the day

I just liked it extra when we would have a Monday holiday on either the short week or the Monday after a Friday off

    Fair, fair.

I like my current role. I'm not flight or safety critical (to use those terms, I guess) so my PTO just doesn't get questioned or considered, it's just fine. I can drop in to extend a weekend a-okay :D

BUT I think I have to go out to TJ for work sometime soon, so, swings and roundabouts. Hope that happens while the weather's still shit.

My best friend worked a four day work week for several years. He loved it and hated when his company got rid of it.

My wife taught in Woonsocket for several years. She had to commute from Stoughton to WHS every day and wasn't a fan. OTOH, she got all of the Rhode Island jokes on Family Guy. ;)

with the majority of paid holidays being Monday it does have some advantages.
    4x10 5-330 is pretty nice.

    5AM?

    :pccoffee:

I usually get up around 7 in the winters, 5 in the summers with the sun. I still like 5x8 - normal time in, normal time out, full afternoon all day every day :D But, hey, it isn't one size fits all. We had a dude who did third shift at my old place. He'd leave work, get the kids ready for school, sleep while they're in school, see them after school - when most people are still at work - get them to bed, then go to work.
