Any recommendations for clutch replacement kits?
I have heard LUK makes a good kit for 3rd gen Tacomas. I may also be confused if they make the OEM replacement kit?
I've seen a kit by Phoenix Friction as an aftermarket option. Anyone ever use this?

    https://www.phoenixfriction.com/p-4...lutch-kit-toyota-tacoma-35l-v6-2016-2021.aspx

Background information my truck is at 110,000 kms. For the last couple weeks I have noticed weird revs on the highway. Almost like I am spinning on ice when I push the gas. High rpms, no power. Last night parking in some snow I smelled the burning. Seems like clutch is nearly gone to me.

Any advice would be helpful especially because I am using a new mechanic for this job as my longtime guy closed shop.

    Thanks!

I believe that @Formidable is happy with the ClutchMasters clutch that he got? He might be able to provide a link.

From his build thread, he notes the FX250?

Wtf gives? Been told a zillion times there's nothing like a manual, clutch's are lasting well over 200,000 km.

That's a great price, esp including the TOB.

How is the feel with that one? The stock clutch has almost no feel or initial bite.

Quite possible it could be the clutch slave cylinder corroded and not releasing properly. Replaced mine several years ago for that reason. It was exhibiting same symptoms as yours.

Debating the life of a clutch is like debating mpg. Too many variables

At least @Inferno2016trd have the clutch fluid flushed out. That fluid, automotive brake fluid, is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture which can make the clutch do odd things when old.

But it's a manual, and those are suppose to be far superior to these wimpy autos. Your never suppose to have any type of clutch issues with manuals.

Having run the stock Aisin kits in the past, I will say they could be a bit grabbier for my taste. That being said though, I am now running the Aisin clutch disc with a stiffer pressure plate made by M-Pact, and it is fantastic. Much grabbier, but still very streetable.

Maybe the PP is the answer? The 3rd Gen clutch feels lighter than the two 2nd Gens that I test drove.

From my experience, that has definitely been the case. The pressure plate also affected the location of where the clutch started to grab in the pedal throw on my truck. With the stock Aisin PP, it started to grab with the pedal 75% released. With the stiffer PP, it now grabs with the pedal like 25% released. PP also affects the pedal stiffness as you mentioned. Also I’ve found with the stiffer PP you can use a stock style disc and have more tq capacity. With the stock Aisin PP my clutch started slipping almost immediately after adding the turbo. It is holding up just fine with the stiffer PP and stock disc now

But would there be a burning smell as well as weird revs?

    Stop saying stiffer PP.

    Good stuff!

Folks would play that game with PPs and springs on dry clutch Ducatis. Some would run three or four springs instead of six. Thankfully, mine worked great with just a new, matched set of six. What an easy machine to do clutch work on. Hahaha!

That PP started out black, but it was a bad anodize. The copper color is likely offensive to the purists.
