I know the Raptor is going to have more power, better at towing, etc which I why I said focus on suspension performance only.

Based on the answers so far it seems like a stock Raptor is going to out perform a Tacoma on mild stuff but bigger stuff, due to better suspension setup, the Tacoma is going to come out ahead.

I’m still glad I have my Tacoma (it’s hard enough park as is. Would never want a full size) but sometimes I wish I would have gotten a raptor and put 1/3 of the money into the suspension, probably end up paying the same amount in the end, and have a better performing vehicle. :rain:

More power makes the suspension work a lot better because you can carry momentum through things. The added weight makes it a smoother ride too

Both my cars, the supercharged lexus and the LS swapped tacoma, are stupid. I could've bought a GT350 for the money I put into the lexus, and come out ahead. Same with the tacoma, I could've bought a 3rd gen raptor with factory 5 link and come out ahead. Could've come out ahead in literally every category, but whats the fun in that. When I see a raptor on the street, its "oh cool, a raptor" but when you see a SUA tacoma with wide ass fenders and 10 shock absorbers all around, its "ooooohhh shittttttt"

    building stuff is fun

Oh yeah 100%. I’ve built a 500awhp Subaru, 350hp wide body bagged BRZ, etc etc. lost money every time. Honestly the building part is the most fun. I’m sure if I did have a raptor I’d probably have wasted at least the same amount of money building it.

And I agree. I’m the same with built stuff. Stock Raptor I don’t really care. Build Tacoma that’s cool. Same with super cars though. Sure they are cool but I’d much rather look at a built anything.

In this scenario, I'd agree with you. The SUA is the major difference that would give a Tacoma the edge. That said, you put an SUA on a Raptor and it's a completely different story.

I agree with this. The built not bought concepts applies here. I also believe that a lot of people start with a Tacoma not realizing the snowball effect that will take place. It's a practical vehicle for a daily until you realize how much fun off roading is and start doing a ton of mods. There becomes a point where you become too invested and realized you should have gone a different direction.

I fall within this category. lol

Completely. It's hard to have foresight on that kind of thing. And if you do, then you already already know how much to budget for what kind of performance you're looking for. Same applies to UTV's. Work great out the box despite being a golf cart

Soo since my Taco has MT and Raptor shocks in the rear does it make it the best of both worlds? :D

    Answer is no, BTW lol

I got raptor shocks as well out back… better than any oem replacement, and a lot cheaper than a 12” archive setup or something similar.

works alright for now, but it’s no SUA.

Eh I forget the PN, honestly idk if I knew them. Got them at a local Ford raptor shop that has takoffs frequently.

basically the 2017-2019 or something ones.
Fox, 12” stroke, 3.0 diameter, piggyback 2.5 resi, internal bypass. Not the Orange fox live valve or the earlier gen1 raptor 2.5 ones with the darker blue. They have a light “king” blue caps despite being fox.

Compression adjusters? Eye to eye mount? Everything I’ve seen online is “approximate product image” or what ever the verbiage

    These.

I don’t have the measurements.. I ordered DMZ lower shock mounts and made some hoops under the bed along with hydro bumps at the same time. So I just cycled the main leaf and set everything based on that.

Not a bolt in replacement I should clarify.

Also, I wonder what kind of travel numbers this produces. I cant find the data on it but if it fits a 4” lifted f150 with a stock travel of 12”…I’d imagine that this would have to have at least a 14” travel? Idk I’m a noob to this stuff lmao

disregard. Found the travel numbers and it’s 12.1” per fox for pn 985-26-054 but pn 985-26-055 is 14.1

so turns out my diff isn’t centered in the truck for who knows what reason.. it’s also like 3/4” low on the pass side. Don’t know if my mounts are shot or have a bent one yet. Won’t have time to dig into it until this summer.

I’ll beat @81Trekker to this one…that would never happen in a Raptor, Tacomas are stupid for offroading

Well technically if he had a raptor the diff would be centered because it’s still stock blowing the doors off of heavily modified Tacomas.
