I've been to Gooseberry twice now including camping for a few days and it's a great area to find a campspot and ride. Only piece of advice for there and the entire Hurricane/St George area is it's HUGE. Maps and Trailforks don't do it justice.

    Yeah.
This was my initial thought, but I'd take it for a ride. Before all the FS stuff got big and frames were switching from steel to aluminum, I went for a top-level steel over aluminum -- it just rode smoother. With FS, you don't seem to necessarily *need* the vibration damping of steel, but maybe it doesn't hurt. Interesting, to say the least.

I loved my older Surly Karate Monkey HT but I was running into issues with the rear horizontal dropout slipping when using a QR rear wheel. I sold the bike along with my road bike to fund my 2020 YT during the pandemic.

I'm thinking about buying a new KM bc it supports boost, TA rear wheels and has a tapered headtube now. I'd probably transfer over parts from the YT (FS is more than I need for the trails I go on)

    (1) Gooseberry is a must. There are so many combinations to link it all together. My personal fav is: (Park at Windmill TH) Windmill - Bowls & Ledges (west) - North Rim - Cut out at the big retention pond to the White Road, take a right, go about 200 ft --- Hidden Canyon - South Rim (all the way to the lookout) - Have a snack, enjoy the view - Now take the South Rim all the way back to the end - take a left on the White Road, take a right on Practice Loop - at first intersection, stay right - at second intersection (4-way) take a right on Bowls & Ledges - take a right on Windmill and cruise back to the TH.

Some folks love the Secret Trail. I personally don't care for it. If you want to add an extra 6 miles to the ride, give it a try. I would ride GB with your normal ol' bike. Lots of quick ups & downs and a lot of body english. I have ridden an ebike on GB and it was not for me.

    (2) You can make a big loop from Over the Edge/town of Hurricane with: Head up Hwy 59, Gould's Double Track, Gould's Rim, Gould, cross Hwy 59...this puts you at the top of JEM network...take a lap around More Cowbell, Upper JEM, JEM Downhill, and JEM all the way to the Virgin River (it's easy and really pretty at the end), climb back up the new Carne Asada trail, up JEM for 1/4 mile or so, right on Hurricane Rim...take this all the way back to Hwy 59, coast down the hill back to OTE/town of Hurricane.

This is an excellent ebike ride. You can do multiple laps in the upper JEM network before heading all the way down (make extra laps with Dead Ringer, Cryptobionic, Goosebumps).

    (3) Little Creek mesa is fun but can be very confusing. It's like Gooseberry on steroids.

    (4) Guacamole is a fun cruise. It's a go-to for a quick Sunday morning ride before driving home. You can spend hours out here or a short 45 min loop. Amazing views of Zion from Guacamole. As said before, the road to the TH can be a nightmare if wet.

    (5) Wire Mesa/Grafton Mesa - Lots of fun loops up top. You don't have to take the Grafton DH.

    (6) King Kong/Flying Monkey - some highly techy DH. Also lots of security for the rocket testing lab up there. Pay attention to signs and don't even get close to the fences!

    ST.GEORGE:
    (1) Barrel is a hoot. Definitely ride it.

    (2) Zen (and now) Mega-Zen have always been popular but I have never gotten the hype. The views are great but kind-of a "meh" trail for me.

    (3) The City bike park is fun. Check it out if you can.

    (4) A great ebike ride in Santa Clara is the Barrel Roll loop and the Sidewinder - Suicidal Tendencies loop. Access at Gates Lane TH (head up Cove Wash Access).

I've ridden all this stuff many times over the last 22 years or so. Reach out if you need more intel.

Had to get out and play in the snow yesterday. I had the only tracks so it was a little weird in the woods, easy to lose the trail in places. Studded tires did great but they were a little sketchy on the areas with bare rock.

You might have added some Surly Monkey Nuts to the horizontals to solve the sliding or simply gone single speed!

I knew about the nuts but didn't want to get them since I had planned to upgrade to FS anyways. I sure do miss my KM's now!

Same. The ‘dated’ geo by 2018 size large standards is fairly relevant for current mediums…

I wanted a KM for a while that I was going to build as a rigid all-rounder. Ended up getting a gravel bike and riding that for the last two years. Decided I need something for the chunkier and gravity oriented stuff. Feels like a perfect addition to "complete" my stable:

    IMG_2033.HEIC.jpg

Taking it in and out of the bed to hit different trails made me realize I really need a tailgate pad.

Love my Chromag! Probably ride it more than any other of my bikes. Riding a hardtail makes you realize how bloated these full suspension bikes really are on the climbs
