Had windshield replaced. They put in Fuyao instead of Pilkington. Left scratches on the side of truck, no way they will admit to this. Ended up removing paint all along the edge of the windshield. See attached pic for one area. They are trying to tell me this is paint peel and not from them and nothing they would have done could have caused this. I took a picture before replacement which shows no defect. I’m 100% certain this is from the windshield replacement. I’m concerned about rust eventually underneath where I can see. On top of this they left glass everywhere on the inside of the truck.

They are going to replace with Pilkington when it comes in and touch up the paint. I’m beyond frustrated but as long as the paint is touched up under the seal, I shouldn’t have any long-term problems, correct?

I would be back there to supervise this procedure.

Or maybe just turn it all over to your insurance and have a real body shop take care of the paint. Then have them come to the body shop to put the new windshield in. Cause they are just going to be mad and mess that paint up some more before they "fix" it.

    Just two ideas.

Will definitely supervise. The body shop is next door and they work with each other. Mostly just pissed because they denied fault and said they couldn’t see any scratches (as if they did it with removal) vs. another cause. Took more pictures just now and can clearly see scratches as well as multiple depths on the area paint was removed (i.e. scratching/gouging). New scratches on the roof as well.

I have been lucky enough to have had the personal enjoyment of replacing 2 windshields, one in my last 21, and one in my current 20. Both times nothing like this happened. Feel for ya!

I’m not sure what to do as the more I look there are scratches all over the roof. Looks like they could be buffed out but that’s not the point.

I’m not sure I feel comfortable having them pull another windshield and potentially exacerbating the problem but not sure I have another choice.

I’m tempted to go to my insurance and see if I could get the glass replaced through another company and go to a different body shop as these two seem to have a relationship. Otherwise I’ll just have to go back and supervise closely.

Sorry about your problem but, at least I was wrong about Safelite. I was furious when they put that crap in my truck when I was told I would get OEM. I hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction, there's just no excuse for that kind of shit work.

I agree with 513Mugsy above and "Or maybe just turn it all over to your insurance and..."

Yes, contact t insurance company and have them deal with this problem. If you insurance company was involved with replacement. I would say take it to another company/shop for paint repair. Let insurance go after first shop.

The windshield will need to be removed while painted. Do you think the body shop (if I go to a new location) would also be able to replace the glass? These two were next door to each other but if I went to another body shop that removes the glass (to paint underneath), not sure how I’d get the glass replaced if they don’t do it there.

The body shop will do it, or they will out source it to another glass company. To remove and replace. Just let them know whom, did damage. So they don't/won't out source to that company. I had similar problem 3 years ago. Glass company installed window to low, it actually cover vin#. Plus, left glass and dirt all over interior and engine compartment. Called insurance, told them. They said find another company. I did. Insurance company took care of everything and went after 1st glass company for reimbursement.

Stupid question, but they’d have to have a mobile glass company if they couldn’t do it, correct? Or otherwise how would you transport the vehicle to the glass shop?

They would handle it all. All glass companies have a moble division.

Looks like the turds used a pry bar or a screwdriver instead of the wire garrote to release the seal.

It’s infuriating. I don’t know how they can deny damaging the paint when there are marks likes this everywhere. I want this replaced as well.

Swirl marks all over the roof as well. I’ve been so careful with this, I didn’t have a single scratch elsewhere prior to this.

Going to discuss options with the insurance company on Monday and go from there.
