Can't speak for Fabzone armor but only seen and heard good things about them from fellow taco owners on instagram.

Jason is awesome, very fairly priced, and knows his shit, wouldn't hesitate to use him for any work though he is a bit far.

I used The Truck Shop in Miramar for my cab mount chop among other things, they work on plenty of modded vehicles all the time so they also know their stuff as well, and I highly recommend them if you don't want to drive to Vista. Shop is about 15 minutes from PB, give or take depending on traffic.

    Unrelated,
Anyone in the market for a desert armor doggo RTT ramp? Bought one from a fellow TW member, (8ft) only to find out it won't work with my GFC due to how the ladder mounts.

$150 takes it, never been used by me or the previous owner except this past weekend when I put it on and figured out it wouldn't work. Got a little dirt on it but otherwise it's brand new.

Just throw in any set. CHP just wants to see you have them, if you have 4x4. That was my experience a few years back.

Have a blast in the new snow...Sunrise Hwy? I have a old buddy that lives in Pine Valley. He heats his small house with a wood stove and one of those heating elements mounted on top of a propane tank. Guys can put up with almost anything, that's part of the fun!

A neat place to visit at Laguna Mtn when it snows is at the SDSU telescope center. May need 4x4 to get to parking area which is why I like it. Off Morris Ranch Rd. Short walk to the observatories. Bathrooms closed outside business hours.

That's also been my experience. Never had an issue getting on the mountain with 4x and good tires. I was trying to be a responsible citizen since I have a few days to figure out chains that actually fit the truck. The storm coming through looks like it may get nasty so chains would be a decent last resort for the CYA situations.

No, heading up to Big Bear. The closest area that will get a decent amount of snow.

I was born and raised in Lake Arrowhead. They'll let you past chain control with 4x4 and chains in the vehicle. They won't make you put them on. They can though, at some point it becomes mandatory. They can also restrict access to residents only. That being said, if they get as much snow as they are predicting, being able to actually put them on would be highly suggested. Not so much for you, but because there will be cars in every ditch and berm as far as the eye can see.

Carry a snow shovel (any shovel will do in a pinch), and tow strap. The shovel is for you. The tow strap is so you can make a few bucks pullin people outta berms - the tow companies will be overwhelmed and people will be waiting hours, that is until you come along and pull them out for $40. I used to drive around the mountain and pull people out in high school to make some gas money  Now-a-days you probably need to get them to sign a liability wavier before you hook up.

Also, be aware that you need a forest adventure pass even to park in the turn outs. They will be out enforcing that easy revenue stream.

If you're planning on bringing up sleds, make sure they are decent ones. Visitors often leave behind broken plastic sleds and heaps of trash in the wake of their snow play. Be a hero and bring some HD construction trash bags and pack some of that junk out.

Always carry the basic recovery gear in the truck but a snow shovel might be nice for this trip. Kind of hoping I can put the winch to use too and maybe cover some of the beer/food we'll grab from Whiskey Daves with recovery fees. lol

Didn't think about the Adventure pass, I'll have to look into that. Thanks!

Winch works too. I was not that fancy in high school, and I am still not that fancy, although I'd like to be!

You can get a day pass. You don't have to punch the dates on them until the day you use them, or a year pass (used to be) like $30 bucks. If you plan on hitting the trails up their during the summer at all, just get the year pass... I'm actually not sure where to get them off the mountain. But for sure be in front of that one.

Adventure Pass is still $30, plus $5 for a second vehicle pass. Split the $35 with a buddy. I do, every year.

Julian is supposed to get 12-24". Mount Laguna more. Agree Big Bear will get more but 2' is a ton for the San Diego mountains.

@desertjunkie760 the whole mountain is under R-3 (chains required). CHP is suggesting absolutely essential travel only. Emergency services are using their tracked vehicles to get to people.

Good to know. Thanks for the update. I borrowed a set of chains from a buddy but I need to see if they fit well enough.

Webcams in running Springs. Watched for 10 minutes, didn't see a single vehicle go through. I can't even make out the road. It is usually pretty obvious. Might be possible Sunday or Monday.

Hwy 18 is closed at the moment :notsure:. Everyone is at home just trying to dig out their driveways after each flurry. Supposed to get a ton more tonight.

Updated, the chains fit… barely. This will be interesting.

We’re up at Mammoth and potentially stuck for another week, tried to leave this morning and hit this. I was having to drive with rose lens goggles on to see much at all = a great recipe for a Darwin Award…9B775585-7D8F-44DB-861D-A9070FCA4418.jpg
