Found a couple JDeez in Tennessee to try.
They were $80 at the first place I saw them, so I passed. Drove down the road a bit and found em for $40.

My first Auchentoshan and I had high hopes. When the neck pour came out I thought it was a cola! Look how dark it is. Unfortunately, the neck pour was not good. Good nose - got some of the sherry notes, but the taste was bland. Nothing stood out.

I figured I'd let it sit for a week or two (it's been 3) and revisit it. Gotta say, it's the biggest letdown I've had. A bit harsh, no notes to speak of (no vanilla from the bourbon, no sweet from the sherry or that funk from oloroso). It's one of those that I just don't want to drink it. I'll let it sit for a longer time, but it may end up a drain pour... Sad.

 

sucks….you think it’s the low proof?

 

Doubt it, but possible. Most of the scotch I drink is around that proof and has great flavor. It may be a bad bottle? Review descriptions do not match with my experience, so I'm leaning towards that.

 

Trying to clear room on the shelf, this OF is on the chopping block at the moment. I really enjoy these OF BP store picks, their flavor profile has a very wide range.

 

That's a really good bottle, I really enjoy their lineup. EC BP store picks are one of the most underrated readily available bottles out there.

 

Have a bottle of each of these in the pipeline and looking forward to both immensely.

 

I'll let you know. I'm a complete WT fanboy but ECBP and EC Private Barrels at barrel proof are absolutely some of my favorite whiskies. So who knows?

This WT 101 Rye makes a great Old Fashioned! It has only been recently that I started using a rye for my OF - and have really enjoyed it!

 

I see that Rye peeking in the back and I'm envious.

I have a single OF SiB BP thanks to a hookup from a buddy...never seen one in my neck of the woods on the shelf.

 

Y'all are sitting there talking about these fancy bottles, while I'm over here taking advantage of being able to find Buffalo Trace again!
