Are you guys paying to swamp the TPMS? I wanted to get some local takeoffs, but it looks like everyone says the 4R TPMS won't work on the Tacoma. Having to buy new TPMS (or swapping) and labor for breakdown adds to the expense. Is there any real consequence for riding without them? I read somewhere that they interact with safety sense and can change braking. Dont know if there's any truth to that.

Yes, have them swap over your Tacoma TPMS sensors to the 4Runner wheels. Really no reason not to since you've already got them in the OEM wheels.

Edit: just realized you were probably meaning that you're trying to install wheels with tires already mounted. In that case, hard to say. I don't like having incomplete systems so I'd pay to have them swapped over either way. Tires aren't the worst thing in the world to upgrade. Saying is that anything that separates you from the ground is worth spending money on...

Thanks. My plan was to run on the stock 4R Dunlops until I sold my stock wheels/tires, then soon after update to something else. The sensors not working throws that plan off because then I have to swap the sensors before I can sell my stock wheels/tires. Might be easier to just buy the wheels and swap everything all at once.

If I were you, I'd just take the 4Runner wheels with Dunlops to a tire shop, have them swap over the TPMS from your Tacoma to the 4Runner wheels/tires and mount them to the vehicle. Ask if they can give you the Tacoma wheels with tires mounted back and just use regular valve stems so you can turn around and sell the Tacoma wheels/tires without worrying about mismatched TPMS.

That's what they did when they swapped my 4Runner wheels onto my Tacoma when I bought it. I ended up selling the Tacoma wheels/tires to someone with an old Land Cruiser which had no use for TPMS sensors but the wheels and tires were ready to go with just a regular valve stem.

Then down the road, when/if you decide to get new tires, you can just have the shop swap the tires and leave the existing TPMS in place. That way you're only paying for it once, since you'd have to pay for it anyway as an adder during the future tire swap.

Should be relatively straight forward and only cost $100-150 (if I remember Discount Tire's cost correctly). If you're patient, you should be able to find 4Runner TRDOR/Trail takeoff wheels/tires for $500 or so (hopefully).

Just one idea. Best of luck!

Looks awesome! Removing the chrome ring does a lot for these wheels!

Yes they are. It does good in all weather conditions for me but anxiously waiting for them to wear so I can get something a little more aggressive.

Just put falken wildpeak AT tires and the trail wheels. It’s flashy now haha. May powder cost them darker someday but love the stance and wheel shape!

Hey Tacoma family - quick question. How is everyone removing the entire center caps on the trail wheels without bitching the slot up? Just got myself a set of brand new takeoffs and I don’t have the tool provided in the 4Runner tire change kit. Any help/advice would be appreciated!

I see a separate thread where some have said that due to a bore change the 4Runner Pro wheels are not mounting correctly on Tacomas.

Has anyone had the same experience fitting newer 4Runner Trail wheels to a Tacoma?

I have the trail wheels getting mounted this week and hoping I don’t run into this issue..

    I ordered the tool. Part # 09183-00030
The 4Runner lug nuts are taller so I found a spacer to put between the lug and pry tool.

I didn’t have an issue putting trail wheels from a 2022 on my 18 Taco. Only mini problem was the lug nuts on my sport wheels must be slightly bigger in diameter because they rub the center caps when screwing on so I had got the T4R center cap pry wrench. Taco lugs are also shorter so I found a spacer to use between the lug and pry wrench

I ordered the tool also…it was only $10 and found the center caps easily pop off without it. Wheels got mounted no issues using same lugs being used for my sport wheels. Happy with end result except dealership scuffed up the wheels with some marks…it is what it is

Can anyone who went from OEM OR or Sport wheels to these report how the change affected the ride? Any noticeable loss in acceleration, differences in suspension behavior, mileage, etc? These being 29lbs vs the 22ish lbs of the 2nd gen OR wheels is pretty significant. Thanks
