First Time Truck owner with lot's of questions.

Read the sticker on the visor regarding to 4-wheel drive. I would avoid 4-wheel drive low usage till you read more the manual more. Welcome to the forum...lots of good information here.

 

It good to use both 4hi, and low a few miles a month to keep everything lubed up in there, otherwise when its needed it might not work.

When it's cold as shit out I use S Mode to keep it in 4th gear at 45mph to keep the RPMs up. Helps it warm up just a little faster.

Take your Taco on a Trail. Throw it into 4hi (on the fly) and get to know your truck. If you get stuck in 4hi, stop and put it in 4lo. if your still stuck, throw on your rear locker. If your still stuck, try the Crawl Control. The noise from the C.C. will scare the shit out of you, but don't fear it. (Check out a few YouTube videos)

You can play with the MTS, as each setting does what it's intended for: Snow, Mud, Dirt, etc... For best results travel with friends who can pull you out, or help you shovel out.

In "any" inclement weather you can drive in 4hi. Hard rain, snow storm, or in the muddy trails.

Enjoy your awesome Off Road Taco. It's built right, right out of the box. But for best results, get some A/T tires instead of those Kevlar Highway Tires...

Its Better TO have it wen You dont need it, then When You need it, and Dont have it, Plus the TRD resale value is SOLID as a Rock..... plus im in Oregon we got Off roads all over the place.

The newer Tacoma's don't have zerk fittings to grease, so it's not relevant. My 4R does, and my 17 Taco did, so assumed the newer tacoma's still had them. Disregard!

What for? It's a gear limiter that's useless for anything but downshifting.

I dont like for it to upshift to 6th at 35mph, so I generally leave it in S5.

 

I see, so you do you it as a gear limiter. When I first got a Tacoma, S to me meant Sport and I tried to use it as sport mode in other vehicles. Didn't pan out.

 

I tried that when I first got it as well, had the same results that you did.

 

So question if its Raining Hard, why would I wanna put it in 4H? On a truck wen driving 2wd is it just the 2 front wheels turning? Not the back wheels right?
then when turn on 4H the back wheels spin Now?
