It appears your overlord, the cat, has other plans for the box.

You always need approval from the foreman before the job is complete.

Same boat. I'm working with a Harbor Freight pocket hole jig. It worked well enough to build this coffee table, though!

    Looks great!

I use a Kreg K4. I don’t think they even make it anymore. It works great and has helped me complete many projects. Here are a few more things I have built around the house using pocket holes.

    Kitchen Island
    AF760DC2-84F7-4383-974B-C0C6966B652E.jpg

Built in shelf where an ugly pillar used to be. I even made the molding for this project as well.

Bench/ Shoe rack for my Mom
    E57DDAA6-0E0F-4C55-BD79-D04B5BA108D2.jpg

+ a bunch of outdoor furniture and tons of pictures frames.

I learn something new each time I build something in the garage. Crank up my music and get creative.

A Festool Domino is currently #3 on the list. Need a planer and jointer next. My Bday is next month and I think I my wife will be getting me a Dewalt DW735 and possibly the Grizzly G0947 tabletop 8” jointer.

Good plan. Planers are essential, but I really upped my game when I picked up a nice jointer.

I'm in a two-bedroom apartment. I wish I had a garage to work in. I'm sure the wife (and neighbors) wishes the same! I'm limited to what power tools I can use; for space, noise, and dust collection.

I'm basically stuck with my miter saw, circular saw, drill press, trim router, and various hand tools.

So on my ocd fueled quest to flatten the backs of my chisels properly, I became frustrate with my limited sharpening equipment and invested in some improvements. It seems to help quite a bit! Now I just need to be more patient as I go through the grits.
This is where I was at before deciding to get more stones and a flattening diamond stone:

Here’s after flattening more with my new 220 stone, followed by the 1000

    Then the new 3000:

    On to the 6000:

Then I broke out the new 10,000 stone:

that’s when I realized I needed more work on the lower grits to be able to get a mirror like finish. I’ll tackle that another day

I finished up by using the 10,000 stone on the face, then doing the micro bevel.

Damn is it ever sharp now!

My father in law has a floor standing Powermatic jointer in his home shop, along with a compliment of Powermatic and Laguna tools. He is only about 20min from my house, but I prefer to work at my own house with my own tools whenever possible. I only go over there and work when absolutely necessary. All of the large tools in his shop will eventually be mine, so I am more oriented toward getting smaller tools, mounting them to moveable bases, and still being able to park my wife's car in our garage. Eventually, her car will live outside and will remodel our 3 car garage or have some type of dedicated space wherever we may eventually move.

I would really like the planer so that I could mill down 3/4 pieces to use easier in my scroll saw and to make some cutting boards form family members as birthday gifts. I use the thinner pieces in my scroll saw to make Christmas ornaments for my family each year. The jointer is so that I can start using unfinished lumber from my local supplier.

Almost everyone here started out the same way. Limited space, tools, and budget. You can do a lot with that list of equipment you currently own. Don't worry about what tool you don't have. There is almost always a work around. I am more concerned with using the right type of wood for the project and desired color. Pick niece pieces of lumber that are as straight as you can get that have interesting grain patterns. I don't use paint, so the final desired color often limits the wood species choices. Money is also a huge factor here as well. Choose a good design or design features that you like, and then apply a finish that really makes the grain POP!

I will be working on a picture frame today with some of the leftover walnut from the table.

    Yeah… no!
I still need to get the back of that one better, then I have 8 more to do!
That’s going to take a long time. They sure are nice when done right though!

I check Craigslist every week for a planer and a jointer. A fair number of jointers are listed, most bottom end and not worth it. Few planers pop up. I saw a used DeWalt 735, but the seller wanted near retail retail for it. That seems to be the way with good used power tools around here.

This isn’t a typical solution for everyone, but we’ve build several sets of duplexes for my company and so I handed my personal CC to our interior design person. I’ve purchased nearly $800 in tools from HD just off points earned on my credit card from furnishing and decorating houses for my business :anonymous:

It took me a year of watching Craigslist and FB marketplace to find a good jointer. I didn’t haggle price at all, the guy that called first was going for a lower price and lost out. 8” helical Powermatic that looked like new for half the price of new. Score!

Exactly. After I posted that, I jumped onto Craigslist and found the 10" DeWalt table saw I want. Used, seller wants $490. I could walk into HD right now and get an unused, fully warranted saw for $550. I guess for some, saving $60 is worth it? When I start my next project and need the bigger saw, I'm just going to buy it new.
