In most cases, 33" and up will need a cab-mount chop (CMC) and pinch-weld flattening. There are exceptions depending on your wheel offset, actual tire diameter, wheel width/size, caster, etc. but in general, to avoid rubbing, it is probably going to be needed.

Look through the thread, there are plenty of photos folks have posted of this setup. SMH.

Ordered my 285/75/17's and should be here next week. Quick question, while prepping for them, is there anyone on here that is running this size and HAS NOT had to do the cmc yet?

They are the perfect size imo. But they took some work to get em to fit.
Cab mount chop, viper cuts, fender trimming.
Every time I go offroad I come home and seem to grind a little more.

4.88’s and these tires get along great. Still in the break in of the gears so still have yet to drop the hammer. But, between gears and Dave from KD Maxx updating my tune to said new gears, I can tell she wants to run. Super duper happy fellas…

I’m currently on bald ass 285/70/17 KO2’s, and running -38 offset F5’s. Been on the fence between these, 295/70/17, and 305/70/17. I just ran into a friend who got some 285/75/17 Geolandars on her FJ and between that, and you fellas I think I’m sold. Hopefully update here in a month or so!!

    Do it!
I love it. I just made the change last week. BTW, I would consider the Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I got them on Amazon for a little over $1300 delivered. Their unbelievably quiet on the road and handle great offroad!

Thank man, they look awesome. I am heavily considering RG’s. I saw the Geolandars in person and drooled a little bit. They are definitely not a necessity for me. Got to make a decision soon.

You can always fuck with the alignment to give yourself more castor wish could clear it but the downside is then you have to adjust toe and watch your camber, without replacing your upper with the spc or one with heim inner joints you could run into issues with too much positive camber. The other downside to this is you’ll be in the front of the wheel well where plastic massaging will need to take place…or a new bumper.

Yeah I probably wouldn’t have laid under the part I was welding unless I was tigging it. I always lay off to the side if I have to weld on my back…too many pock mark scars on my abdomen and chest to attest to the lessons learned there.

Thats exactly it. I’m on dirt roads at most, the RG’s will be plenty but those muds look so good. Sometimes I’m in the crap to get somewhere, not out there wheeling just for fun. I think if I go RG, I’m going to go for the 305’s. Decisions decisions…

Either way, glad I found this thread with some great rigs. The diameter makes it look great on 17’s.

oh, and thanks for letting a 2nd gen hang lol
