Cheap harbor freight clamps. cut the fixed end off and weld to the head of a 5/8" bolt. A shoulder bolt would work better if you can get them

Little bit of work for today, covers next week's fulfillment of 16 shock tabs -

Unfortunately, one didn't get it's hole cut out so I made another two since I set up my cut file for sets of two.

Not bad to have only a single small part fail to cut -

    Ready to go!

No nut. The welding table has a tight tolerance so the clamps wedge themselves in as you tighten them down.

Ditching Fusion? Curious how it goes since it's been a long time since I used Solidworks...

In the mean time if you are trying to get a dxf out of fusion, you have to make a drawing from design... then you can save out as .dxf, .dwg, pdf etc.

I'm actually tracing out your double back flip at the moment. I'm on the free version of F360 and I'm not having any issue saving as a DFX on my version.

I also am curious why you are moving away from F360 as well.

It looks like your still getting to much slag? A problem like that would have customers wanting a service call if they could not solve the issue easily.

The whole idea of a cnc table is to go from being cut to being welded.

I only worked on the Fab shop or industrial level of equipment are those quality of cuts limited by your plasma machine or your still working out your bugs ??

No, see above. I am able to make DXF files from it.

Not ditching Fusion, still need it for my CAM. Just learning a much more versatile software.

What can I say I am just evil that way!! If I do not ask things as I think of them Those thoughts are gone. To return months or years later.:anonymous:

Sorry it is a habit that has driven employers crazy for 40 years.:frusty: What is worse is when I would ask something about what happened years ago. Like it happened yesterday.

Codes you will be looking for:

AWS D1.1 - Structural Welding Code - Steel
ASME Sext. IX - Boiler and Pressure Vessel
    API 1104 - Pipeline

Search for local welding inspection and certification businesses, Certified Welding Inspectors.

Youtube University will get you in the door most places, might even pass a few tests, but your lack of training will be readily apparent in the first 30 days. Especially considering there are tens of thousands of possible certifications and you are going to know a few of them and try to pass it off as being a professional welder.

Have you studied electrode classifications and specifications? How is your code navigation? Do you know the difference between a WPS, WQTR, WPQR? Have you studied metallurgy? Have you studied Welding symbols and definitions, and blueprint reading for fabricators and pipe fitters?

Youtube is great for DIY and basics, but it is no replacement for structured training.

Stop getting welding training on the internet. Go take some classes, enter and apprenticeship program, or take an entry level job and be upfront about your abilities and your desire to train.

Honestly, attitudes like this "I dont want proper training, I just want to figure it out and pretend to be a professional so I can make welder money" is the reason there are so many $14 / hr welding jobs and why skilled trades has lost a lot of respect.

    This!!!

Having learned AWS and making our own blueprints on CAD was detrimental for the last shop I worked at!

They get a ton of applicants that know how to weld but don't know a single symbol or how to interpret lines used, etc.

I think that may be a bit harsh. I don't think people looking for suggestions about entering the professional welding trade are going to be asking here.

90% of the shops looking for a welder are not looking for a certified welder. The shop will ensure that the welds they want can be performed by the person hired to weld.

Certified welders are going to nuke plants/pipeline/shipyards.

If this is what you want, be prepared to be on the road your entire career.

There are not a lot of professional welder jobs that will allow you to be home every night.

The main point of this thread is to encourage people who want weld to do the best job. The rest of us are here to offer suggestions and criticism to help them be better.

I do not want to write anything that will discourage someone from wanting to weld. It's a skill that will help you for your entire lifetime.

For what it's worth, I classify myself as a fabricator 1st and a welder second. I spend 10x time prepping for a weld vs the time welding.

We can only try to help and hope it is what the person asking was looking for.
