I have no idea, but this definitely solidifies my assertion that this builder did not give a bother about craftsmanship, just get it finished asap.

The interesting thing to me is that looks like an improper adapter from PEX to copper. I don’t know a ton about the PEX-B system since I ended up going to the expansion PEX-A system but that looks incorrect. I converted my house to PEX-A supply lines downstairs and love it so far. Much more confident in my connections compared to trying to sweat copper.

Does it get below freezing in your area or did you have a really cold snap where things could have frozen? If so the problem could have been caused by that. In my neck of the woods hose bibs have to look like this:

Stud shoe attempt #1, anything I absolutely must fix?

GC agreed to face frame this wall to help carry load from above. Some of these studs are pretty trashed as pointed out before. I used a three screws where the nails had zero bite due to stud shredding.

any ideas on the header and side wall? The joists get in the way on the header and these are stud shoes so not sure they can carry load sideways. The side wall is super notched and has an elbow so the single shoe doesn’t fit.

I couldn't tell by the picture if it was due to the clamp, or over tighten clamp damage the line.

I seen people using radiator hose clamps before.

so it was leaking at the pex/copper adapter?

i think you're somewhat fortunate it was leaking out on the side of the foundation. can't as easily flood the house that way.

a customer of mine just had a pipe burst in the 1st floor ceiling the day after they left for a week vacation. it was near 0 degrees that week. they walked in to the back door after a wonderful vacation and there was a torrent of water running down the stairs to the basement. they had a $12,000 water bill, most of the first floor and all of the finished basement is trashed. one year after they completed partial renovations to a large part of the main floor...

be suspicious of any routine spec home builder. most hire/pay to the lowest bidder, few build for quality.

i ended up surprise replacing my furnace humidifier today.

was working in the basement to clean up the disaster area that i've been putting off all winter, and noticed great amounts of hot air blowing out off the furnace.

turns out my humidifiers mounting flange was entirely separated from the furnace and was essentially falling off the furnace...

there used to be a mounting flange here...

Yes below freezing around Christmas but the hose wasn’t connected at the time.
There was at least 5 gallons on the floor between the closet hall and bedroom. I tore out all the baseboards and 1/4 round in the affected areas. Still working to get back to square one on not having wet between the sil plate and the flooring, that appears to be how it traveled from room to room.

I didn’t try to identify the leak after the water was turned off and the wall was opened. It clearly was leaking there recently I just didn’t pressurize to find the exact failure because I didn’t want to clean up more water than necessary. Its failure is somewhere between the PEX to copper and the hose bib. Either way that is future me’s issue when it’s all dried out and I have to figure out how to resolve this effectively, I am thinking that if this was frost related then I could have an access panel with a shutoff valve for the future. I just need to plan it so the access panel isn’t entirely blocked by the toilet.

My house was built by one of the "better" spec home builders in my area. If what I have is better it is a wonder that any homes from the other builders are still standing. I have a work friend who's husband is a builder. She complains all the time that he can't find any good plots to build on. The spec builders have billion dollar budgets and can buy thousands of plots at one time. In 2018 I looked for land to buy and could find nothing worth owning. My choices were, build behind some old house in a run down neighborhood built when plots were bigger or buy from a spec home builder. So where do I live? In a great location filled with shoddily built houses. There are law suits going on all around me as the owners find nightmares hidden in their walls. But, it's just capitalism and that's a good thing, right, right?

We have a covered deck coming off our second floor on the back of the house. It is screened in, but with the flooring having gaps between the boards we still get bugs, and also can drop things through them.

does anyone have an outdoor flooring recommendation to put over the deck?

The foreman kept telling my son how all the houses were built to the EXACT same specs/blueprints yet we found multiple differences in each house compared to his. Plus a few areas that looked extremely sketchy - like no good support for headers.... the builder told my son multiple times that they couldn't find qualified framers and other trades.
