I feel your frustration, it sucks. It's obvious that they did it. Playing stupid, doesn't work. Don't know, whom you have for Insurance, hopefully someone with common sense. I have State Farm and they have been great with these situations.

That’s absolutely terrible . They were a bunch of butchers apparently. I would be livid . That glass company should be on the hook for all the expense 100 percent. Including a new cowl / paintwork etc

Nope. Safelite. Wish I could do that stuff myself. Both my parents vehicles and both my kids vehicles have had new windshields put in, within the last three years. Could of saved a lot money even though we all have insurance that has a small deductible. But I guess when you live in a town with 6 gravel wash plants, and two concrete plants. I wouldn't except much less to happen.

Most of the rocks have been thrown from oncoming traffic. They pull out and rocks are falling off the tops of trailers, and being flung from between tires. This is how my last one happened. That rock tried real hard to come through the windshield. I was doing 60 and he was doing about 60 in the other direction.

I turned around and chased hime down. Actually grew up with his trucks owner, and he split this one with me.

I should be good as long as the paint is fixed, correct?

I’m never going to be able to get all the glass out of the vents.

That’s ridiculous. I’m getting mad just thinking about it . You really need to get the insurance more involved . That’s just not acceptable

Agree. Windshield should be pulled for repaint of area. How much damage/ paint missing off pinch weld area where Windshield lays in.

    Still working with insurance adjuster.

They are going to repaint the roof, pillars, etc. and then re-clear all those areas as well as the roof. They will have to remove panels/windshield (obviously) as well as the rear glass to do this. Makes me extremely nervous about them getting all this back together the way it was prior to tearing it down for the repaint. Also not sure if they have to replace the rear glass when they do this or if they can reuse it. Should I go ahead with this or there any other suggestions?

For what it’s worth, I wouldn’t stress the FY over the Pilkington.

I had a whole debacle with windshield replacements a few years back. My OEM windshield cracked and it was a comedy of errors getting it fixed (a cheap glass replacement that leaked, 3 Pilkingtons that leaked, many scratches which I couldn’t even repair within the insurance check cashing window). As soon as the final Pilkington went in and was sealed within a month it cracked again. Each of those replacements was handled by the same company though I kept changing offices to try and get a more competent tech.

I went to the local indie guy who does all the local body shops and he recommended the FY as in his experience they hold up better. I’ve had zero issues with my windshield since. YMMV, but I have lost confidence in the strength of the OEM Pilkington glass.

Sounds good to me. The back window should just come out with a gasket setup to seal it in place. It is not glued in as far as I know.

So this is actually pretty common, though the damage done is usually not like this.

Most shops will use a "air knife" Its pretty much just a small air powered sawzall with a straight blade. When they push the knife too far it hits the body and cuts the paint, in this case it bent the metal causing the chips too.

Generally the damage from a air knife does not show up for many years when the bare metal starts to rust out. At that time its impossible to blame the company.

For yours, you would have to have the glass removed again, then show them the marks from the air knife hitting the metal.

I just had my roof painted. Actually the roof was replace, so a bit more then your going to have done. Rear window comes out easily. Have them replace top roof moldings, not reuse old. They will have to drop headliner as well to remove shark find, and 3rd brake light.

It’s been at the body shop for a little over 3 weeks. Insurance wasn’t really a help with regard to getting Pilkington windshield after the Fuyao was placed since it could be pulled and then reinstalled after painting.

The original glass place had supposedly ordered the Pilkington in for me (because of their mistake) so I had the body shop contact them to see if they would deliver it. Had a message last week that they delivered the Pilkington glass.

Today I received a message that everything has been painted and the new windshield was installed that had been delivered but after installation they just noticed that the brand new (not pulled) windshield that they installed is another Fuyao, not Pilkington.

I’m not crazy about having another windshield pulled since everything was just repainted but on the other hand I think they would have to fix it if there was any damage again.

What would you do? Just go with the Fuyao?

I’m leaning toward just going with the Fuyao to prevent having to pull the windshield yet again.

I have a feeling the truck will be done today or tomorrow if I leave it as is vs. waiting another week or two for a Pilkington.

I just can’t believe after how many times I complained to the body shop that the original glass replacement was with the wrong brand from what I paid for that they wouldn’t double check before installing.
