10 hours driving... and no time for some shrimp and beer?

Hope you have fun! Here are some photos of when I first took Elizabeth to the SAN FELIPE 250 (in 2005): http://vivabaja.com/205

Of course that is round trip (5 hours each way)... I have other plans this weekend, otherwise the 250 is fun race to watch!

It is nearly an hour FASTER going via Calexico/Mexicali... Tijuana and Ensenada city traffic as well as the 20 mountain miles to Ojos Negros really slow you down.

Any of you guys concerned about the whole cartel issues down there? I'm asking because I've never been to Mexico.

Oh, I imagine in the Baja part there probably is a lot less problems than in the inner cities too.

No, and I tell you why not... there are murders everyday in American cities... Are you affraid to go into a city? Why not? Well, the same reson Mexico is safe... because you choose to not be in the areas where crime happens or get involved with criminal activity.

You can allow the TV news to keep you a prisoner in your own home (or your own country) if you want. I choose to go where I want and experience as much as I can. Chances are far far greater you will be hit in your own town then robbed on a remote beach or dry wash in Baja.

Have a look at our group trip of last Memorial Day weekend (HB Murphy joined us) and see how wild a Baja trip can be, without any contact with drug runners, bad cops, or banditos: http://community-2.webtv.net/vivabaja/msm2010/

Damn, I wish I didn't have to work. For sure I'll go to the 500. Have fun there, be safe.

ATO front skid (need more but icon's might fail if I hang anything else from my truck) All-Pro front bumper thanks to a good deal here and a pesky encounter with a rock or 20, total chaos uppers.
Last time I was in Mexico I was stopped for running a stop sign ( I saw the cop and stopped and counted to ten). The cop said the fine was $1000 and I was going to jail if I could not pay him on the spot! By the way this was just north of Ensenada. I was not drunk or doing anything illegal, cop saw a nice truck and thought he had a easy payday. He told me he would take me to a atm so I could get cash or a credit card advance! Told him I don't use CC's, he than told m to have my parents wire me $$$ or I would be in jail till I payed. This went on and on and I told him to take me to see the judge and called his bluff. After a hour in cuffs and having been thrown in a cage in his truck he searched through my truck took whatever he wanted (phone, ipod, some cash (he found about $50) and my socket set) then let me go. I had been down to mexico countless times before this and was fine with the old $20 Mexico tax but cuffs and truck torn apart was the end of the line for me. 99.9% of the people who cross the border have zero issues but I did.
