    Howdy all,

browsed through some older posts in the North West section regarding differentials and specifically truetracs.

My 2015 DCLB 4x4 has an open diff, and I'd really like to get a Truetrac in there, hoping for any recommendations on shops in and around Seattle area.

    So far I've seen:

    - NW Diff in Monroe (1 month out, awaiting a quote)
    - Mule Outfitters, won't do it.
    - Randy's Ring and Pinion, haven't contacted as they are a bit far. (recommended by some shop I called that wouldn't do it)
    - Rob's Transmission, anybody have experience with him? He's closest to me
    - Billybob's, a little far from me
    - Just Differentials, even farther!

Also wondering if anyone has positive or negative things to say about their aftermarket diff choices.

    Thanks!

I was gonna use Just Differentials for gears and lockers, but after one returned email they just stopped responding and not answering the phone either. Lots of complaints online about the horrible customer service. Randy's owns Yukon I believe? I'd trust them

Id like to do it myself but I'm worried about ring and pinion lash and carrier bearing preload. Is it really that easy?

ECGS sends you a fully built 3rd member. You then send them your 3rd member.
I just did this. It was about 3 weeks from the time I placed my order till it arrived.

It's a specialty I can do suspension, brakes, clutches anything a shop can do but i won't mess with gears too much can go wrong if you don't do it correctly. I had ECGS send me built ones shipping back was not that expensive, i was in the same boat as you and could not find anything locally.

Great tips everyone. I didn't think of buying an assembled 3rd member...

That's about $2000 from ECGS with a $600 core charge.. So $1400 bucks for my diy plus misc tools and other things...

I will have to see what my shop quotes come back as...

I love my torsion diffs. Confidence inspiring on and off-road. Simple and reliable. Went with ecgs

+1 or I guess +2 for ecgs. I did f and r lsd’s and a regear with their exchange program and it was great.

I ordered mine from them fully assembled and had a local guy do the install for around $350. It's been a great addition to my truck

Sorry to revive my old thread. You say difs like plural. Do you have more than one on the same truck? Like a front torsen?

Do you have a thread on that? I'm tempted to do both front and rear as torsen at the same time.

How's transfer case binding? My most common use case would be snow, and some very infrequent shenanigans on forest roads and desert wheeling.

Have talked about it on a few of the lsd posts and have had a few guys dm me about it. I think the biggest drawback of the front lsd is that it keeps the front driveshaft spinning at all times so there is more parasitic drag and a loss of fuel economy. I don’t think there is any more transfer case binding than before I did the lsd’s. I have very happy with the lsd’s in snow, sand and the few times it’s been out in the woods.

Great information, thank you. I appreciate the heads up on the front driveshaft too. All the more reason I wish I could have manual hubs...

Have both front and rear. Pretty close to stock open diff with regards to binding/steering push. Low range tight turns tear up the ground but it did that with open diffs

If I chain up the rears only then I notice some push. Seems slightly more than open but hard to tell

street driving is what blew me away. No more one and done on slippery wet roads when try to accelerate. Pulling out into traffic on wet pavement while empty it just hooks up every time. Traction is good Offroad but may require more finesse than lockers

I happened to wander over to this section of the forum, and saw this thread.
I would highly caution anyone interested in automatic locking diffs who plan to use their truck offroad. The diff will engage unexpectedly, and a locked diff will drag you downhill in loose terrain. In off-camber snow, being able to turn off an electronic or air locker, or even using an open diff, will keep you from sliding off the trail. Somewhere in this section is a thread on an infamous trail run where we sat at Evans Creek overnight trying everything to get a guy off the side of a cliff.

    Just my little warning :p

The Detroit Truetrac is not the Detroit Locker. That sucks for that dude hope everyone was ok.
