The 3rd Gen frame is supposedly better . But no matter what If you drive in the salt belt you need to protect any truck frame and the body panels or you will have problems . The stuff they put on roads now is really bad.

I do not think, for even a millisecond, that given the opportunity (i.e. no lawsuit) Toyota, like most corporations, wouldn't have likely left customers hanging with a rusty and rotten frame... you must have misinterpreted what I was saying...

I fully understand WHY I was gifted the frame.... the point is that it cost me virtually nothing... and for that, I am really happy.

It took Beaver Toyota (St Augusitne, FL) 3 days from drop off to returned to me...

As good as Toyota is with quality drivetrains and vehicles overall, it's hard to understand why they had so much problems with rust!

Other manufacturers of pickup trucks and SUV's have not had to be sued and replace frames by court order. What is Toyota doing wrong?

Is it some twisted form of "self destruction" on their trucks, hoping to sell new ones after 10 or 15 years?

Wasn't aware you were being sarcastic when you said, "Love Toyota!"

Maybe it's a secondary backup plan in case the latest & greatest technology package / rims / TRD Pro grill isn't enough to entice the soy boys and bros into the dealers every couple years...this way they're forced to.

Well, I picked up the truck on Friday after work. Everything is great so far. They did replace my lower control arms which I am not complaining about as they put OEM back on which is awesome. I have ordered some surface shield to spray the frame and new parts with which should be here in the next day or so. I have a little bit or work to do on it in the meantime before that happens, I need to drop my hitch to get it blasted and repainted to as well as a couple other miscellaneous pieces that got transferred over. I will post up some pictures when I get off later today.

Is it worth getting the hitch blasted vs just replacing it? I picked up a new rear bumper brace/support (piece above the tow hitch) because I could see it was pretty rusted and had them install it with the new frame. The tech said it basically crumbled. Now that there is all new hardware, should be easy to replace the hitch. Let us know how trying to refurb it goes. But if you frequently tow, why not just replace?

When I have a hook up on someone that can blast it for me yes it is.

Nice! Then definitely interested in how it comes out. Any chance you can post before and after pictures so I can use it as a comparison before I purchase the new hitch?

My local dealer did my 2007 Access Cab in 2 days. I dropped it off at 8A on a Monday and it was complete and ready to pick up at 3P Tuesday. The only issue I had was there were a couple of bed attach bolts lose, but everything else was solid.

Is the frame replacement still something that Toyota still offers?

This recall should be considered a safety issue correct?

I believe it is 12 years from in service date. Provided you also had the crc when Toyota offered that. I have a ‘13 as well, and mine runs out next may.

Honda has this issue as well...check out the CRV 2007-2011 frame corrosion recall and 'fix'. They couldn't even do it on my fiancé's car so they are buying it back.

You had to have the rust application that they applied into the boxed section near the cats to qualify for the extended warranty for the 2011-2017 models. They sent out a recall letter. They only applied white goop there not over the rest of the frame but the service manager told me if the rest of the frame develops holes I qualify for a new frame on my 2015 till 2027. Up here in the great white salt the hell out of the roads region you don’t find many 10 year old chev, ford or dodge trucks as their frames are totally gone by that time. But Toyota at least stands by their products.
