Don't overthink the holes for the master cylinder. We had someone passing around a template back then. I ended up just eyeballing it and it worked out great.

Got my flywheel back from trans shop. Im down to just needing a couple of little things and a trans Jack. I went for my NJ state inspection today so now I have 2 yr to find an ECM if I get any CELs.

Does anyone know if I can just swap the manual break pedal and pivot onto my automatic bracket, or does the whole bracket assembly have to be swapped over? It looks like there are just two bolts that hold the pedal arm to the bracket.

I just grabbed one of these 800lb Pittsburgh trans jacks for my clutch job a few weeks ago when they were on sale for $180 locally. They are back up in price, but still worth it in my opinion. I didn't trust the safety chain so I used a ratchet strap. The tilt feature was nice to get it lined up going back in. I also have the smaller HF 400lb scissor jack and it would have been doable but sketchy in my opinion. Edit: Hydraulics are a lot easier to control on the 800lb also versus the scissor jack that you need to hand crank/impact up and down

I just converted a 3.0 4Runner last summer from auto to manual and one of the trickiest parts was figuring out the wiring from the auto trans — the FSM showed one component floating around in space, and turned out the illustration was from inside the trans. Drove me fkn nuts. If you have any issues there let me know, I might be able to help. And good luck!

I wound up buying a Sunex transmission jack. It won’t be here until next week.

thank you!!! A friend of mine tracked down a 2003 ECU for a 3.4, manual 4x4, but I don’t have it in my hands. I actually took my truck to state inspection the other day just to make sure that if I do run into any CEL issues, I’ll have 2 yr to figure them out

I kept the original ECU and didn't have any issues, but a 3.4 is likely going to be a bit different. Also no CEL issues here as well, but again 10 years older.

If I don’t get the ECM, then I will rewire/repin it the way @SafetyDang recommended in his post. I’m pretty certain I am guaranteed a CEL if I don’t do that. The issue I have with the 2002 ECM that came out of the truck with that I got the transmission from is that the cruise control mechanisms are different, so I don’t think I can use the 2002 unit and retain my cruise control. I may be wrong.

I think I did the 'rewire/repin' by making a little harness from some extra connectors I snagged at the scrap yard. The details are escaping me at the moment, but I can provide more detail if that'd help.

DO NOT impact the scissor one down. It doesn't end well for everyone involved.

Ok cool. I’ll definitely be pinging you once I get to that point.

Based on all the feedback I received here, I just ordered the input/output shaft seals, dust covers, rear main seal, and the Marlin shifter seats/sockets. I also ordered the red FIPM gasket material (I think that’s what it’s called).

The 4WD actuator on the manual trans transfer case has a cracked electrical connector. Is the one on my auto trans T/C identical? Not sure why Toyota would make two different ones, but just thought I’d ask.
