No worries man. I trust ya.
If you need anything, you got the number, reach out, possibly have it. No lathe or mills(I wish), but, you have access to those.

Really depends. Some of the mental anguish I've seen dished out in the Architectural and Engineering firms is pretty horrid. I couldn't deal with some of the bullshit I see with some of these firms. The way the higher ups treat some of the lower level people is just awful. I worked with an Architect at one point, his boss would take the same 2 weeks off every year, he would take either the 2 weeks before or after every year because his boss was such a dink, he wouldn't have to deal with him for a full month.

It varies. Some days it sucks but then other days, I get into my truck, turn the heat on, and it's warm by the time I get to the end of my road. I am waiting to turn right, look up, and see the dudes framing the add on work at the old peoples home at the end of the road, and it's 15 degrees out.

Sunny 75 degree days, I'm jealous. Pouring rain, 15 degrees, etc etc - suddenly that jealousy isn't there!

I did physical - both food service "physical" and construction physical for 5ish years, that was enough for me to know long term - I'm going to pay attention in calculus and figure it out. Happy to be in the field but being the physical grunt worker - I'll take the pay cut.

If you enjoy what you're doing with good people, it's great. I was a QA Engineer ( :puke: ) but with great people, so it was okay for longer than I intended. Some of those people cycled, and when one QA Manager left it wasn't even that the people were bad but that was the "This is it" moment where I was done with QA.

Basically where I'm at now, I know this isn't where I want to spend the next couple decades of my life. And as it is now I get shit like @Pugga 's example on top of the other high stress field shit so if I can lose one of them I'm still ahead lmao

I'm happy to do the physical if it's indoors and climate controlled!

I was an aerospace Sr. QA Engineer without a site QA manager nor a regional QA Manager - I've gotten the mental pummeling

I think there's a limit. If I'm inside moving boxes or whatever, yeah so be it. 15 degrees crawling through mud and in tight spaces, lifting heavy loads? No thanks.

 I think it was in a PM but I mentioned, in the field you get seniority shit talking rights. In the office, there may be jokes but the intern to the engineering manager are all heard. Still have to earn the respect but that degree goes a long way, and the schoolyard style shit talking isn't there.

When I was a field surveyor there was a lot of physical stress that added up - would have to hammer in grade stakes in a compacted roadway with a bull pin 8 hours a day for weeks on end. It added up after time, but it was very easy to lie in bed at night and fall asleep. Physically tired and sometimes anxious about having to go back out and do it again. Now that I am in the office running a company, I have to find time to physically wear myself out during the day so I can sleep.

Mental stress doesn't go away when laying down. I'll wake up at 2 AM and have to go sit at the computer because I won't be able to stop stressing about a project or upcoming deadline. I get calls all day long from clients that add up over time. Granted I am able to pay myself better and am not out in the elements wearing away physically, but the mental stress is a whole different animal.

It really is a case of the grass is always greener on the other side. When I was out in 95 degree days in wetlands with insects galore, I loathed the office guys sitting in the AC, when I am in the office I loath the guys outside getting fresh air moving around.

in many engineering fields, especially mine, i am under constant deadlines. There is no breathing, and it takes a toll. Finish one thing, on to the next, why isnt it done, why isnt that done, whats taking so long. Oh the product you designed is failing in the field, or hurt someone. vacation is here great, but your deadline persists.

Its not unique to just engineering and not saying my job is harder or worse than anyone elses, but man i wish i had a moment to breath a little. and today, doing more with less people makes it that much harder.
just saying, mental isnt always better. My head is fried at the end of the day, almost everyday.
