Is the 4 cylinder in the 3rd generation the exact same engine that was in the 2nd generation?

    I had a 2012 and now a 2023.

Why get the 4banger at all when the V6 gets the same MPG and has more power.

I believe it is the same 2TR-FE engine yes. Not sure if any auxiliary systems might have changed somewhat though. For example the auto trans option is different from 2nd to 3rd

The new 2TR is dual vvti and has a higher 10.2:1 compression than the one in the 2nd gen, which has 9.5:1 compression. Since this is the case, the short block part numbers are different. Different heads as well. Pretty much everything is different, including the transmissions they put behind them

Actually with the 4.30 diff vs the V6 3.91 diff the 4 cylinder out pulls the V6 for the first few hundred feet in a drag race :D

Because it doesn't. I get around 27 mpg in city trips, and I've gotten just over 30 on longer trips.

Hasn't happened with my truck. It leaves hard with those 4 bangers trying to read my license plate.

When V6 assholes show up to a 2.7L thread just to be assholes it’s totally warranted. :D

    Now on your way.
