Getting ready to upgrade the garbage JBL stereo in my '22. Given that I already have components, what's my best option here?

    1. Mount tweeters in stock dash location (means running new wire up through the dash, which would thoroughly suck)
    2. Do the Subaru speaker thing and not use my tweeters (would still require running new wire through the dash)
    3. Mount tweeters in sail panels and just disconnect dash speakers
    4. ??? or ???

You have the JBL with the subwoofer?

Start with the subaru tweeters. They really do make a big difference. Replace door speakers after giving that a go.

Yessir, JBL sub. I still have all the audio equipment from my last Tacoma (2015), so it is definitely going in this one.

Ah, Now I get what you are saying. Nevermind. Though I do like the subaru tweets, running wire up to the dash location isn't as bad as it looks. Coming up with a mount adapter for the dash location is a bit of a pain. If you can find an adapter for your current tweet, run that. If not, it would be worth the 80 bucks to just plug/play the subarus.

Yes, I have an adapter from Mr. Marv, so that part is easy-peasy.
You've snaked wire up through the dash before and it's not too bad? Ultimately that's what I'd prefer, but I'm not taking half my dash out to do it. F*** that noise.

Its really not bad, if you attack it from the few panels that are easy to pull (especially the panels along either side of the dash) and a fish tape to push or hook wire.

Running the midrange speakers in the dash AND tweets in the sail panels would be the cat's meow. But unfortunately I'd have no idea how to wire all that off of one channel; sounds like a nightmare.

I would put the components in and see how it sounds what do you have to lose if you already have them. The tweeters should be fine in the dash I had some Kenwoods in mine in adapters before I swapped everything out to the JBL Stadium 3 way set up. I don't have the Toyota JBL system but ran new wires to doors and dash it wasn't bad at all.

considering you've got the jbl system, not much you can do, imo, outside of a full aftermarket amp/speaker change...

Yessir, I have everything but the head unit (I like it). Image Dynamics components for all four doors, JL shallow 10" in Mr. Marv box, Maestro AR, and Arc Audio 850.5 5-channel.

I was able to put morel virtus mid range speakers in the stock tweeter locations and put tweeters on the a-pillar by screwing in pods. I ran the speaker wire straight down, then over to the center console, and finally under the passenger seat. I have them hooked up to a JL XD 400/2. I was also able to fit a fix 82 and twk D8 under there.
