    Limiting straps might help reduce the clunk noise that you're experiencing because they would intercept the shock before it tops out, but still doesn't change the fact that you're likely limited on down travel. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that you're not lashing on your suspension so they're not "necessary" if you can deal with the sound effects. What I tell people is that in general your shock can handle being used as a limiting strap. However, it CANNOT be used as a bump stop so it's important to size shocks appropriately. We see this get done wrong especially on rear-end applications.

    Why they didn't make a lift shock that is longer than stock?.......:notsure: For example, a Bilstein 5100 for this application has an extended length of 22.2" which is nearly an inch over stock. I can't say for sure without seeing that something else isn't wrong and measuring, but my gut guess isn't changing.

    Believe it or not the actual on-paper spring rate of an OEM 3rd Gen shock is greater than that of a
    $225 ARB 2887 Old Man Emu Coil Spring
    ARB 2887. OEM comes in at 717lbs and the ARB 2887s come in at 590. Toytec sent some 2016 springs in once upon a time to get tested.

    Not gonna argue with you about that. Knowing they sell a ton thanks to their price point I would assume it would come up more if it were a wide-spread issue. That or people just deal with it (I know I did). To be fair I was a 19 year old kid with some hand tools in dad's garage putting his first suspension on for mine, and I have no idea who did the other guy's setup. I just know that the sound I've experienced is the same that @Junkhead is vocalizing. No other impact to ride quality or performance that I can recall other than the noise. :notsure:

    asking the wrong person.. The OP has a stock configuration from what i concluded by his posts.

    Suggest you direct those questions to him.

    However you can still answer my question about down travel..

    not looking to argue either. I do believe stock bushings have no place in this setup and am curious if @Junkhead can confirm he upgraded to OME 3133.

    and to be fair, toytec is much more profitable selling anything other than OME. Eibach, or rebranded eibach, to be specific

    Might be difficult for you but was simple for me on the shock measurement.. much more precise.
    You can multiply by 2 right? for the leverage ratio?


    .. I have larger diameter tires and zero offset 16x8 wheels.. Hub to fend measurement is a joke method with my set up.

    FYI: It’s not exactly 2… but anyway, you are welcome to measure how you like. I’d rather not lay on floor trying to thread a tape measure up through the IFS while holding a flashlight in my mouth. Albeit, I found a slightly easier way was to hang the tape measure off the top hat and then get on the floor to get a measurement.

    sorry…meant to quote the OP. That would be the whisky.

    stock bushings would be silly regardless of mileage in my opinion, so if OP can confirm, I’d start there.

    I believe proper down travel should be closer to 6

    Not 2 on the leverage ratio? And what do you think it is?

    odd.. you have so much difficulty with that measurement if you are capable of installing front suspension.

    give you a hint.. you don't even need a tape measure.. use a length of 10 gauge wire and mark the distance to measure later with a tape measure..

    Also a heated garage does wonders and magnetic stick on LED lighting

    I can deal with the noise, I honestly don’t care about it that much. If I know that’s just how it’s designed and nothing will break, I’m perfectly fine with it.

    I mean it’s been like a year and my front end has been airborne a couple of times…

    down travel of 10.5 to 11?? you talking inches or some other form of measurement?

    Once the suspension mods are completed, wheel travel increases by 1.25 inches in the front to 9.25 inches and by 1.5 inches in the rear to 10 inches

    My wild guess would be down travel limit. If that's the case, I'm guessing the three possibilities are a) lower stance/shorter spring, b) longer shock, or c) live with it?
