I'm a dummy and was inputting values incorrectly. Casappa gear pumps have an efficiency rating of .85 therefore my answer is 18.75/.85=22.05 kW required to create it

... I believe that's incorrect thinking but it's been a while since I dealt with friction heh. Are you think of the the break-away coefficient of friction (lower) vs the static frictional force (higher)?

And often times that's an ideal efficiency

Lol I was thinking of the basic ass equations we used to have to do in high school physics class where to find the force required to push a box of X mass you need y Newtons. But you divided N by the coefficient of friction given by the chart at the top of the quiz

I believe it. Given my technical experience with the equipment, Casappa has the best preforming pumps and motors. With a 16.7cc pump on a 20.5hp Honda engine it'll produce almost 14gpm free flow. Take the same sized 16.7 pu.p from a vendor like JIH and that same honda engine will struggle to make 13gpm at freeflow.

But you're still taking close enough classes to help. I've searched for awhile and never came across the article you linked. So your not related PE at least knew the right keywords to give Google so it could point me in the right direction lol

Yeah, as far as science is concerned air is a liquid. A liquid is anything that "flows" if I'm remembering my classes correctly.

Without a dictionary I don't know what that means

Now that I have that answer I'm lost on trying to find the right equation. The 75lpm I'm looking for isn't from a single pump I actual want 50lpm from the front pump and 25lpm from the second pump.. am I assuming correctly that the second pump with be less efficient because it's receiving power in from the backside of the first pump?

Systems with lots of conservation of energy, heat energy is captured and reused in the reaction or transfer of high to low somewhere else. Like the physics problems that tell you to negate friction. Again this is all dusty knowledge for me, one of these guys probably has a more functional definition

... I'd have to hear/see more about the setup I think. But if they're in series, yes I think the 2nd load would be an inefficiency on top of an inefficiency. So it'd have less power, but not strictly because it itself is less efficient, but because you cannot provide it full power anymore

My uncle did that for a long time just south of my work, then he got a job offer to go up to Alaska and work on some hydro plants, just barely came back a year or two ago

Oh, wow. I unfortunately don't know anything about Alaska or Hawaii power production, just limited to the continental US in my work.

Cool so I'm on the right track and thinking about this correctly. I just don't know how to figure how much more inefficient the 2nd pumps is.

For more detail my boss got an order for something we've never made (but we've made similar) customer is looking for a hydraulic power unit that has a dedicated circuit which provides 12gpm and then a second circuit of 8gpm that feeds two valves. It has to be diesel

So I've just been trying to do the math to figure out how size my diesel engine for their requests

I dunno if he did either, as far as I know he just work at the local coal fire plant. But it worked out for him I guess
