On a different note does anyone know where I can have a body mount relocation kit welded on by a reputable business or welder. I have asked and Alamo auto supply told me they won’t do it. 4 wheel parts told me they could do a cab mount chop for $300, but not a body mount relocation kit. I ask because I am planning to run 35’s in the future.

Yeah we don’t go out to Red Sands for the same reason, for the most part people just aren’t respectful of the area.
We usually would go the the wall on the west side, but even that’s crowded and kind of takes away from the fun. Nowadays we’ll go west out to Kilbourne hole, not too too far and I’ve only ran into one other person while we were cruising around.

There’s a spot a little further up, just before the check point, that I’ve run. It’s actually a county road so it’s not that rugged but I’ve taken those roads the back way up to Timberon. That was a pretty cool drive.

I know it’s facebook, but you can see the page without having to log in. They’ve done several cmc’s that I see and it looks like quality work. I bet they could probably do the relocation too.

Best looking option I’ve seen in El Paso for a while, I’ve had crap luck finding a fabricator myself over the years.

The website doesn’t seem to work so I guess it’s either facebook, email or a phone call for them.

That road is the 506, It can be pretty beat up at times depending on how bad the Tanks chew it up when they run down it or cross it LOL.

I have never been to Kilbourne hole definitely want to go check it out now, thanks for letting know about it. Do you happen to know if the trails there are wide enough or will I get alot of pin stripes out there. Also thank you for the shop suggestion and contact information, I appreciate it.

Hello El Paso people. I’m from Virginia and live out here but inherited 5 acres from my dad, who inherited it from his dad. Apparently it was part of a real estate scam in the 1970s.
Kind of near Horizon City. Not sure if this is the area some of you guys referred to as red sands?
My dad never even saw the land in person and decided to give it to me since I went and found it and camped there on my way to Arizona. Definitely lots of sandy roads everywhere. Met some locals and they said a lot of people just go party out there and make a mess.
Didn't see too many people on the week days, but weekends were pretty mobbed.
    Anyway, here’s a few pictures.
Not sure if anyone can tell me anything else about this area. Plan on stopping there again whenever I’m passing through.

That’s the one, it wasn’t too bad when we went. That was a cool drive, a little long but scenic.

It was probably smoother than the street I live on since the city refuses to do anything except patch the patches.

There’s a wide county road most of the way out there that crosses just below it and then a trail that cuts north to the rim.
It’s decently established so you should be okay, maybe a few bushes to dodge.
Hopefully that shop can help you out, the guy seems pretty good.

Red sands wouldn’t be considered Horizon City, although the city does encompass a large amount of the surrounding desert. There are loads of trails out there to explore.
El Paso and Horizon City are growing pretty quick, that land could be worth something in the future, depending on how far east they expand.
I’d be interested to see the area it’s in, you could drop a pin somewhere in the vicinity of it and get some coordinates. (That way you’re not publicly posting where your property is:rofl:)

It’s somewhere in this red circled zone. Not sure if you can zoom in to see better.
Crazy how many “roads” are out there. I think they are mostly what they tried to convince people were going to be the neighborhoods 50 years ago.

    That’s like a 65,000 acre red circle:rofl:

Cut it in four quadrants and it’ll give you a good idea of the proximity to each area.
    NE - Butterfield/Red Sands
NW - Far East El Paso
    SW - Horizon City
SE - Getting out there now, but still kind of Horizon City

You’re right about the roads, there was a big push to sell land plots out there. They did the same thing in Timberon up in the mountains, it was supposed to be this high end gated community. It is definitely, not that.

Going east is about all El Paso can do though, the west side it pretty limited on space. So there will probably be neighborhoods out there eventually.

Well, it’s more specifically towards the center of the giant circle haha.
Definitely pretty isolated which is nice for camping.
We don’t have any open land like that in Virginia. Everything is packed in pretty close.
I came across some YouTube videos of a the lake that was out near that area in the 80s. Looks to be abandoned and dried up now.
Well maybe not abandoned, but owned by someone that isn’t doing anything with the property.

Yeah it’s a nice spot, definitely space away from all the hustle and bustle. I grew up in rural Ohio so we had some space but still nothing like out here.
That’s Shadow Mountain Lake, or Mountain Shadow Lake back then. I’m not sure when they changed the name, maybe when it sold. As far as I know a group bought the property to turn it into a rehabilitation facility for veterans, not sure how that’s going.
My mom said she remembers going out there when she was a kid, she grew up down here.

Ended up going to Kilbourne Hole for the first time yesterday. I only saw probably a fifth of the entire area. It was an awesome experience the size of it a lot larger than I expected. I wonder if anyone knows if there is an area where you can go down into the volcanic crater safely or if it’s even allowed.

Looks like a good trip! Obviously it’s been a little while ago now. We’ve hiked down into the crater before, there’s some old fencing and what was a watering hole for cattle or maybe horses. The crater offered an obvious advantage for keeping livestock corralled. I heard a story that some ranchers from white sands relocated out there after the government took over and established the missile range. It was anecdotal though, so who knows if it’s true.

Most of those are up past Las Cruces, I’ve rarely visited that area so I’m not familiar with any of them. The one in Anthony I haven’t run across either, but that’s super close to me so I can try to locate it and see if it’s any good. Or still there at all.

    Hey EP people,

I need some help. I just bought a major fixer upper A Frame camper that is going to need a lot of work and I own no power tools or very many tools for that matter.

Anyway, can anybody direct me to someone or a shop where I can fix the major problems?

I think the flooring might need to be replaced and those wall gaps are obvious issues.

Question for El Paso. I'll be moving there in a few years, we are going to try to buy in 2024. Does El Paso require smog check?
I have a KD Maxx tune, oil catch can and aftermarket intake. On the truck.

No smog checks here, you should be fine it’s just a regular inspection at almost any lube or tire shop. This way you can then get your TX registration sticker for the year.
