    Hi all,
I'm new to the forum, but have owned a Tacoma since 2010. Just purchased a 'certified' 2017 SR5 from a local Toyota dealer in Virginia. A few days after getting it home, I checked the oil level and noticed it was registering aprox. .5" above the Hi level mark. Thinking the dealer may
have overfilled, I drained and refilled with 6 qt. 0w20 and new filter. I ran the engine for a few minutes, turned off and, after waiting for a time, checked the oil level again. Same .5" above Hi level mark. Has anyone else seen this issue?
Apologies if this is a repeat of a previous thread. I searched but did not find.

The oil change from the dealer is always IMHO messed up. Mine had came back .5 low a while ago. Called dealer and they said bring it back. I declined and haven’t been back. Not sure why designers don’t make it 5,6,7 quarts with new filter. It’s like 6.3. Stupid

Don’t overthink things & run it. I put 6.5qts in mine every change.

6 qts gets me right in the middle on the dipstick. Half the time I dont even check it after a change

saw a post not long ago of same issue - one TW member mentioned to compare the length of the dipstick (V6) to another (V6) - found out their dipstick was not the same length - by amount noted. Guess the dealer somehow swapped it before resale. Not sure but 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder dipsticks are not the same length. Might start with going to the dealer and doing a comparison if you don't have another owner near to assist. 6 qts puts mine to the top/max measurement. I also have a fumoto valve - makes changes easier and in your case draining excess off easier. GL.

once you pull the dipstick oil gets everywhere in the tube and it gets hard to read.
wait 10 mins pull it once and use a paper tower to understand where the oil is.

You are either concerned or bored. If you are concerned then use a pump to draw the excess out.

If you are bored then keep reading a bunch of comments.

The dipstick was designed by dipsticks on the 3rd gen! Same dipsticks didn't put a dipstick for the tranny... :)

When you did the drain and refill, I am glad you put in a new filter. Sometimes the dealer will forget the filter.

I ran into this once after an oil change.

I found if I left the dipstick barely popped and waited 20 minutes and went back in for a read it was basically dead on.

Dipsticks are not precision instruments. Now you know where yours registers after a 6 quart oil change. Good to go.

The full and low marks are something like 1.5 quarts between each other. Drop six in it and don't look back. You know, just like sex!

you're fine. also you didn't drain the oil filter which usually take 1/2 to a full quart, I forget which. .5" over max is really nothing to fret about...imo at least, course I add 5, turn over (with new filter), and slowly add till a little below top mark...but I also do my own changes
