Not the route I would take…avoid interstates like the plague. Reduced range because of not only the cold, but think you’re forgetting the resistance of heavy snow, and how are those things with chains? Don’t like having to plan an exact route, get to cross roads and flip a coin. Where does that road go? Don’t know let’s find out! Lots of areas that have no cell reception. Ran into that issue the last time I ran down to AZ, “hey where is the next gas station? use the app, umm…no service, guess we will see if we make it, good thing I carry Jerry cans” Just about every road trip I take, I’ll pass gas stations…ahhh we’ll make it to the next one, if not I have extra fuel on board. Can’t do that with an EV.

It is the same bullshit over and over. Just look at this thread, same arguments again and again. You quoting my post is a perfect example, I said something negative in your eyes about your purchase then you defend it, then I counter, you most likely will counter back. Then a bunch of other people will jump in and defend and counter…constant dick measuring contest of who the smartest guy in the room is. Pretty sure you just called me an idiot right from the get go just because I like to take the road less traveled.

I’m not defending my purchase at all, I’m just stating the facts to counter what you wrote. I even clearly stated that the trip in an EV would be much slower and less convenient. Many, many times over I have agreed that an EV is limited in certain areas and never once said it is somehow gods gift to mankind.

I said you’re (the general usage to refer to everyone) an idiot if you run out of charge, no different than being an idiot if you run out of gas.

Could either keep scrolling or hit the ignore button if he bugs you that much. I mean, he does have Norm McDonald as his avatar, and if you know anything about his comedy… lol!

Now only if I could follow my own advice… :p Really need to stop getting on here.

I dunnnnnnnnnno, sounded awful smug to me. As you said, you just mapped it out in 5 minutes. Then I must be an idiot for not doing the same. Running out of gas happens, whether it is to idiots or those of superior intellect. Probably happens more than I like to admit on the bikes since we tend to push it, or made too many wrong turns of doing “hey where does that go? Don’t know, let’s find out!” That is part of the adventure, not running out of fuel, if you do it isn’t the end of the world, since you can usually carry more, siphon off another bike, worst case scenario walk out and get more. Shoot, we have done topend rebuilds on the side of the trail before.

You have admitted they aren’t the best thing since slice bread, I’ll give ya that. You are one of the better ones. Heck, I’ll even defend them a little. Still think they aren’t very good for the environment. Was chatting with a guy at the airport from South Africa who is in the mining industry, some how he brought up EVs, they can use up to 6 times the minerals as conventional vehicles.

    https://www.mining.com/web/evs-vs-gas-vehicles-what-are-cars-made-out-of/

    https://www.mining-technology.com/features/concerns-for-mineral-supply-chain-amid-booming-ev-sales/

@stevesnj will chime in 3…2…1… about it will get better and somehow all work out.

As they say the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

A Rivian is the perfect adventure vehicle as long as your adventures don’t take you outside of suburbia. If your idea of adventure is trying a new flavor of coffee at Starbucks then it is the perfect truck for you. :D

Lifespan of 8-10 years for battery then what is the cost of replacement, cost to the environment. Not ragging on those that are for EV but in my case I can't afford a major repair like that after driving my $100,000+ pick up for 10 years. Most definitely have their place but not for everyone. I'll keep my Tacoma for hopefully another 10 years with no major component failure, should have 200,000 miles on it by then,20 years old and just broken in.

That’s not the lifespan of the battery, that’s the period of time in which the battery is covered by warranty. The batteries don’t just stop working at 8 years or 100k miles (8yr/175k in my case) just like your engine doesn’t stop working at 5 years or 60k miles when the warranty expires.

I did and the article doesn’t say anything about the batteries failing at 100k miles. It even says that a study showed Tesla battery packs maintaining 90% capacity at 150k miles.

But cobalt has been use almost 100 years before EV's. I understand what you're saying and cobalt free batteries are being developed. The tech just isn't where it should be yet.

I hope you have parts to rebuild those “at least two vehicles” for perpetuity because what if “they” stop selling rebuild parts to control you.
