Another deck, another 3a morning.

 

I miss deck pours. Love PT concrete

 

Until a fucking sub drills a hole through one and pops it. Then you hate it.

 

Hahaha yeah then it’s a pain. I had a sub forget a shower pan in a pt deck once. Later they tried to chip away the deck for the shower impression until they realized they were on top of a column with banded sets at the high point. Chipping away at 30 1/2” steel cables stretched to 5k psi with 3/4” of concrete for cover. Scary shit.

 

Got that beat, had to cut a hole for a stair in an existing building. I had it laid out on the floor, clear as day, with cones, danger tape, etc. Left the guys to set up, told them DO NOT CUT UNLESS I AM STANDING HERE. 1 hour later, I hear and feel the building shake and the associated ping......zip.

A) They cut on the wrong side of the building, they had their drawing upside down.
B) They cut without me there.
C) Lucky no one was hurt, must have been a shallow cable because it zipped out of the concrete all the way across the floor and out the window on the other end of the building.

Glad there were spare cables so we didn't have to replace it.

 

yeah luckily the only ones I’ve seen cut popped out the side of the deck. I’ve heard horror stories of people losing limbs or worse from it coming up through the concrete
