Everything has a trade off. I want a boot I can walk in, and I'm not going hard at the dirt. I'd prefer a cruiser, but it's a shit show on the road I live on. I have to have some dirt ability in it, and the CB500X is an approachable, slightly less heavy option. 430-sih pounds isn't exactly light, but it's nowhere near what the huge liter ADV bikes are pushing.

They've been phasing out the older cardo backtalk stuff and moving to the newer Freecom system. I've been watching and waiting for the packtalk slim or bold to go down since they're a "closeout" everywhere. They fluctuate between $160-250 on Amazon. I kick myself for not buying it at $160.

Is that the Adventure or the base? Wet or dry (giggity)? I assume that's the wet weight because Honda is good about that.

    Thanks for the insight.
I can agree with this as I wanted a kids, clown, DS bike. What I look like on it anyway.

Throw it in your Amazon cart and leave it there. Not uncommon for offers to pop up for stuff that sits in a cart for a week or two.

You can use camelcamelcamel.com to watch the Amazon prices.

I think I just got a Freecom 4+ dual pack for $284 on amazon. Friend gave me $150, so i spend $134 for mine..

Actually Honda's website says 501lbs wet for the base model manual, which is what i have. Even if you get the Adventure DCT its only 553 wet

Haha. I know about the Amazon algorithm trick. There was a thread here a while back where members were teaming up to get it to work on specific items. Basically once amazon notices spikes in an item being viewed or people adding it to their carts, it'll lower the price for a short amount of time (sometimes as little as an hour) to try and get a spike in sales. I've bought stuff for as much as half off using that trick but it depends on how much you want to wait and how often you want to keep checking. If you hesitate or "ill buy it when I get home", chances are you'll miss the deal.

Right, and that adventure is more than a 25% increase in weight over the CB500X. It's only another 100-sih pounds, but I'll take it. I've moved plenty of heavy things for work, and had to pick up my 600+ pound VTX a few times, so the CB will be light by comparison. As for wrecking my ankles on the bike.... Gear you wear is better than stuff you don't and I think I'd wind up not wearing a stiffer/more protective boot in order to be able to get off the bike and walk around comfortably. It's dumb, I know, but it's honest. I'd rather run the Formas that I can and will wear than have motocross boots in a closet collecting dust.

Well that's new details for me. Hmmm..... Perhaps we need to organize a spike in interest as you say. LOL

I don't actually want a comm unit, so it won't help me much.

Absolutely. Like my Tech 7's are exhausting to walk around in for anything other than a day of riding. But they have also saved my ankle many times so that's my trade off. If I used them for ADV/moto camping I'd likely also pack my Northface Thermoball's for putzing around camp. I almost always carry my Thermoball's with me though, what a comfy fucking camp slipper.

I'm kicking myself for buying the PackTalk Slim. The 2-pack was on clearance for a good price, and a buddy was planning to start riding, so I figured what the hell. I mean I was already using the Q3 and liked it!

I like the JBL speakers and the functionality, but I don't like the the rest of the hardware. Since the receiver is mounted to the rear of the helmet, it catches on my backpack every time I turn my head. That may not be a problem if you're riding upright, but commuting on a Super Sport, it's VERY annoying and distracting. Plus, since there's no easy way to remove/unclip it from the helmet, I need to take the entire helmet when it's time to charge, instead of just unclipping the receiver and charging that. Then there's the control module; powering on/off requires pressing and holding the two rear buttons. Not easy to do when you're gloved and the helmet is still on your head. Also, the volume +/- are on the underside... again not the easiest when you're gloved.

Adventure seems to have a thicker sole and more pronounced heel. I tried the Adventure on at CG and didn't like how bulky it felt. I was all set on the Terra Evo but they were all out of stock and I ended up buying some Icon boots and now can't justify a 4th pair of boots. :(

Who "justifies" protective gear? It's like truck mods.

Nice! It sounds like you are definitely going about it the right way. The 2k clear goes a long way as far as coverage is concerned. The downside is that you only have about 24-48 hours to use the entire can before it hardens up.

I can agree with all these. The only reason I haven't switched from a Cardo really is due to the voice commands/recognition. And I just charge it at work so it's less of an annoyance sticking it under my desk for a couple hours.

If you decide to get rid of it let me know (depending on age and condition of course). I like the slimmer profile and I’m on a vtwin so I would probably never find myself tucked in.
