Nice! That looks good. The visor on my G Max is removable but it looks pretty dorky without the visor lol

Looking cool should be so far down the list we don't even see it.

I'm kind of a helmet snob myself and am willing to pay for the privilege. I've owned Bell, HJC, Shoei, Arai, and Schuberth helmets. For my current riding style a modular helmet makes the most sense. No modular helmet that I know of passes Snell testing. I'very seen photos of a friend's Shoei Neotech helmet following an accident that required helicopter transport and can tell you it impressed the hell out of me.

Whatever you do, try on as many as you can and let them on for a while. 5 minutes in the shop is not enough. Make sure you can put on and take off your glasses easily. Put your gloves on and make sure you can still operate any vents or sun visors. Look for a helmet that offers removable and washable inside padding. Check pricing on replacement face shields. Is replacement hardware available if you lose a side pod or screw for the visor? Little annoyances become huge on a long ride. Be sure the chin strap hits you at the right spot. I've tried helmets on where the chin strap irritated my chin within minutes because the material used was scratchy.

I've had racer replica lids, cool graphics, and solid colors. Helmet thefts do happen so be sure you have a way to lock your lid if you have to leave it on your bike. I've found solid colors less prone to theft. You can always add reflective tape or stickers.

Fuck progressive, fuck geico, and fuck USAA insurance.

look into other insurance agencies. I got quoted $4600 a year through progressive and Liberty Mutual quoted me $800 a year as a brand new rider. I then got quoted $700 through Farmers and that included $2500 for accessories and $3500 for safety gear.

And Liberty Mutual told me they can't even approach the rates I get from Progressive on auto insurance. Might just depend on the state you are in. I've checked multiple times over the last decade and nobody has been able to beat their rates.

I believe the rule of thumb is 5 years from first use or 7 years on the shelf, or whichever comes first.

That’s was in CA as a brand new rider. Even now, with Farmers in VA I pay $300 a year for full coverage and the add on replacement for gear and accessories. Think my last payment was $282

Yes, 5 years is the rule of thumb. The materials deteriorate over time and lose their structural integrity.

    Thanks dudes!

Hasn’t been used in years. Pulled it out for the hell of it to to find the date on it. The dust and dirt coming out when unsnapping the cheek pads and liner was choke-able.

Yesterday I found a sizeable chip in my helmet. It must have been a rock or other road debris. Makes me really wonder how people ride without them.

Geico quoted me $215/year cheaper than Progressive for identical coverage. I’ll call Progressive tomorrow and give them the chance to match that price before I cancel with them. Progressive was super easy to deal with after my accident and took care of everything I needed.

The old helmets make for good display pieces though.

When my g/f and I were hit head on in TN in 2019 it was by a Liberty Mutual customer. I hope I never have to deal with them again in my life. Total unprofessional ass holes every step of the way. Grateful I was insured with Progressive and they went to bat for us. Liberty drug out paying the claim for over 8 months.

Well I saw a dealer had listed a bike for $2k off MSRP (~$11k) and when I inquired the OTD price came out to 30% higher. I hate the hidden and random fees they just tack on. I was hoping for 10% higher with TTL, but 30% is way too much.

Not to keeps this dirt thing going..

What’s the thought about chest protectors vs the shirt style with the built in stuff?

I used to have a cheap chest protector and tried a shirt style this go around. It honestly wasn’t the most comfortable thing so I exchanged it for a middle of the road solution.

What I bought (and just returned)

What I ordered to replace it.

I had USAA insurance for most my stuff and if I’m not mistaken, they subcontracted out to progressive.

My last accident in 2017 where I was rear ended by an uninsured driver was an absolute nightmare to deal with. That experience cost me my $500 deductible and ~$800 in rental fees (I’d have to dig it up from my old claim
Paperwork to confirm the cost) and 5 weeks without a car. Yes, I was relying on friends, bus’s and Uber to get anywhere. Even walked the mile to the grocery store with a wagon to get groceries.

Want to talk about unprofessional. That was my experience with USAA and Progressive. What was I told? “Sorry about your luck, hope you’re rear ended by someone insured next time”

This topic is literally raising my heart rate right now.

This popped up in my feed today and could be an interesting alternative to inreach or spot devices: https://motorolarugged.com/en-gb/motorola-defy-satellite-link/

$100 for the device and $150/yr for a subscription (which was about on par for my inreach sub). Pairs to your smartphone for messaging via satellite and phone free SOS.
