So ordered a leer 100xr camper shell for my 22 Tacoma in Barcelona Red.
Color on shell does not match that well. What is the consensus?
    Thanks

Same happened to me. Mine didn’t match well at first, but a year later it looks much better now.

It’s a different material than the bed side so it won’t look the same. Check out your mirror caps and grille surround, they probably don’t match well either.

I think the red is hard to match perfectly, especially with the metallics. Mine is an ARE but is also “pretty close.” I don’t let it bother me, but I’m also adaptable.

Yeah just going to live with it. After a year it should fade and match

My Leer XR in Lunar doesn't match very good either.

Your shell looks like it matches your flares and bumper almost perfectly to me, at least in this photo. I bet it’s probably a matter of some colors just having a more noticeable difference when sprayed on different materials, like others have mentioned.

I love my 100xr but was not cool with the color match. I had it repainted and at the same time they filled in the 'pits' where the Leer logo is. I have Barcelona too. It is one of the toughest to match.

Coming from someone who is a color expert/high end Photoshop retoucher and photographer, that red is really far off and I would say that it's unacceptably different from the body color, if in fact the photo is representing what you're seeing with your eyes. Sometimes the underlying material can slightly affect the color perception. Sometimes the angle of light can make a difference. Sometimes you get a phenomenon known as metamerism where two different pigments of what are supposed to be the same color under controlled lighting (manufacturer's paint vs shell maker's paint) but you take them outside and at certain times of the day they look different.

I have an '18 Blazing Blue Pearl Tacoma with a Snugtop shell that is about as close a match in color as you could ever expect. Can I see a difference? Yes, but I'll bet that most other folks, especially guys cannot. The shell is just a tiny bit more cyan than the body, but you'd have to have color training to see it. There's a large difference in color between the painted metal body panels and the painted plastic body panels, but again, not something most people look at.

I have a feeling that most of these shell makers are only going to guarantee that their colors are in the ballpark and not an exact match. Too much liability for chasing an exact match down for dissatisfied customers. That being said, I'd find those two reds not close enough. I'd almost rather have the shell even darker red and call it a two tone custom. This just looks like someone who was color blind made the decision that it was a match, and men have far more instances of that and mostly it's in the reds where the issues are.

Yeah - this. I’m not a professional like you but it’s obvious that it’s off. And for paying for something brand new to go on a 2022 Tacoma, I wouldn’t accept that level of color matching. Maybe if it was a 2002 Tacoma I’d be way more lenient, but c’mon guys, it’s basically brand new still. Waiting for it to “eventually fade together” and accepting this from Leer is why they think they can still get away with it.

I would not count of those to fade together, whatever that means. There's no way to predict exactly how two different paints with different pigment sources are going to fade when exposed to sunlight and when they both fade, which they will, will they fade at the same rate and will they retain their hue and just change in brightness (luminosity). These guys sell a shit ton of supposedly color matched shells every year and they're supposed to have their shit down. Maybe this one is an anomaly and they'll make it right. I would definitely pursue it.

Do you have a zoomed out pic of the whole truck? Don’t let the color drive you crazy. Leer makes a good product. Enjoy it.

How much was your shell? I ended up like $5200 out the door. Shell, bedrug, led lighting, auto locking thing, front window, side sliders (not windoor), tax. Bedrug was $650 installed out of that $5200.
