Since buying the Tacoma last year in September I’ve been through a few tire and wheel configurations. It took some research and patience (due to unexpected expenses *cough lower ball joint *cough) To find the set up I’m happy with and that fits my needs. (Heavy on the I).

Lets start with the set up that came with the Truck.

When i got her she was sitting on some blacked out pro comp wheels with negative offset and 32x11.5R15 Thunderer Trac Grip MT w/ 1.5” spacers.
In Short it was terrible. The tires had uneven tread wear and bounced around like crazy. Not to mention the tires would rub with any articulated turn of the steering wheel.

Finally after searching Craigslist an FB Marketplace I Found a set of clean 97’ T-100 wheels with some used 30x9.5R15 Firestone Destination A/T with some decent tread wear. ( Enough to party anyway)I Removed the Spacers and She drove like a dream!!

Now I had a Clean Pair of OEM Toyota wheels but I was unhappy with the used tires. They had served their purpose and i was ready for some meat on the taco! So I cleaned up the wheels a bit and hand painted the hubs for a custom look. Then i slapped on a set of New
31x10.5R15 Milestar Patagonia tires! And they looked awesome! Super happy with how it all turned out. Now to put some miles on them!

Now that I Finally found a Wheel and Tire set up i am happy with i can focus on other things! Like the Suspension! (Coming soon…)

Let me know what you guys think and Post the journey of your Wheel and tire set up! I would love to see it!

Back to stock wheel setup will offer the best reliability, as you’ve found ..

not a bad look, I’d have them powdercoated
But you are off to a good start

Right on! I’ll keep that in mind if I ever want to black them out.
