Battery info needed, please. TIA. Sorry for the length, aiming for clarity and solutions.

5 weeks ago and again today, truck wouldn't turn over- just an icky noise. Lithium battery barely jumped it both times. First time I had it "tested" at Autozone, they said battery and ignition system were "good." Napa battery came with truck when I bought it Oct 21. Replaced the alternator and belt within a month. New spark plugs last month. It wouldn't hurt to replace the battery. But why this intermittent issue? Starter? Belts appear to be in proper working order, nothing was inadvertently left on either time. I don't have a voltmeter to check the actual reading, no new electronics installed, not drawing power with bonus lights or blower motor, no obvious loose connections. Put a 2amp charge on it once we got home, it was low. I didn't try to open it.

Yes, it's dirty. Terminals are cleaned and greased periodically. I see some corrosion along wires, some rust at some of these connections. It's been cold, it's been rainy, it's been hunting season, not looking to be stranded in the desert if it isn't (only) the battery.

What are the most reliable choices? Optima is popular but spendy. Which color, which store? Do I need the tray? I'm not overlanding, but I have a GMRS and some more LED lights coming, & use a portable air compressor on occasion. Maybe a standard battery is no longer a good choice?

Thanks @Yacob_D for the hood strut help- MUCH appreciated today.

it’s a pricey battery but never had an issue with mine in my old taco until it hit almost 4 years, mind you that’s being parked outside in direct sun everyday as well which is not good for batteries in az in general. Replacement was easy, took it to batteries plus, checked a few things, and gave me a new $400 battery just like that. Average everyday battery off the shelf averages closer to a 2 year mark, some more some less. AGM, is the way to go though if you are upgrading and making the plunge.

Second this @AZTaco2sDay...you'll need to do the ALT-S diode mod to properly charge any AGM battery, if it isn't done already.

Thanks for all of the good talk on the off grid GPS. I ultimately decided on picking up a cheap used phone and will run Gaia off of that on my handlebars and then keep my everyday phone and garmin inreach on my person. I was able to pick up a Google Pixel 4 XL for $100 from Swappa.

I most definitely cannot ride this bike with no handlebars, unless you want to watch me eat shit.
