Morning all! Anyone on here run wheel spacers? I read mixed reviews on TW. More so worried about salt on roads corroding between the spacer.

Looking for some advice. I have a 4 banger and looking at putting a camper on it. The one I'm looking at is 550 lbs. Was going to get a new leaf pack. But my concern is wear and tear on the engine and transmission. I do travel out west and maybe looking at jobs out there at some point. My gut is telling me it would be putting too much stress over time.

It can handle it, but it wont be fun.

If you went with a “constant load” leaf pack like the Icon RXT (or RTX, I cant remember) that would probably be the safest bet for handling and weight distribution. But you will get no fuel mileage, which must have been a selling point for you or you would have probably gotten the v6. So, yes you could do it, and yes it is going to wear everything faster (5-600lbs faster over time, if you want to figure out the math via the GVW etc), but you could take it on and off if you have a place to store it

Steel rotor hat, steel lugs, aluminum spacer, aluminum wheel, antiseize the shit out of all surfaces and you should be fine. I would bet most people dont.

I personally dont care for spacers but if I ever did run them, i’d cover them in the magical tin man goup

So I fired up the old 3rd gen 4 runner to take to emission testing and they tell me it’s not ready to be tested no shit I’ve haven’t even put 2000 miles on it since the last scam test . It never gets driven just started up a few times a month .How much of a hassle is gonna be to switch to historic tags with the new rules they imposed on the classification.

I was looking at the Deaver stage 3 expedition leaf pack rated for up to 1000 lbs. It would be on the truck all the time but not fully loaded. Just when I go on extended trips. Would regearing help at all?

if you are willing to spend the $2-3k+ to regear, why not just get a different truck?

Last year they changed some stuff because to many people were bypassing safety inspections to drive shit boxes , extremely limited driving like to and from car shows or mechanics but I don’t know how much the cops are worried about it

in your area, I dont know how much I would be worried. There are shit loads of historic tagged vehicles up this way and almost no one cares as long as you aren't hauling, towing, cross country driving, or using them for delivery/ride share services.

Also, fuck emissions. its a racket. I guarantee my old 4runner wouldnt have passed either but emissions arent a thing in the western three counties. Just register that bitch at the cabin.

I routinely see a 90s Camry and Jeep XJ with historic plates that are clearly not being used just for car shows. Technically they could catch some flak from law enforcement, but I would surmise the risk of getting a ticket is fairly low. I would look into potential penalties before heading this route, but if a first time offense isn’t a huge deal, might be worth the risk.

Oh, and since when is a 90s Camry “historic” :annoyed:

    I feel old.
