I posed the question out of curiosity, as my engine likely has around 11-12k + hours on it at this point. Something that would be satisfying to know.

For a rule, I would agree at about 2500 hours/yr. Sounds normal for other equipment.

Newer police cars log engine idle hours as it affects resale.

Aren't "cars" the only types of engined thing where you assess it's use by how far it has moved? In other words, I'd second an hour meter even if it was buried deep in some menu. I would guess the maintenance reminder uses some sort of similar counter.

Programmable Maintenance reminders in the HU are all based on date or mileage. There is no run time option.

Hours is more associated with diesel engines. They tend to idle a lot. The shop trucks where I work are low mileage super high run time. I would never want to buy one of them, even for cheap:bananadead:

Think about this, you look at a truck with 2,000 hours on the clock and 2,000 miles on the odometer it has sat there and idled it's entire life so the wheels hubs mechanical moving parts are perfectly fine by that engine has sat there and idled for 2,000 hours. Then you look at a truck that has 2,000 hours on the clock but 175,000, it's average speed is 75mph. All highway. Take a chance on needing to work through replacing parts all over the truck OR find an engine for a swap. That hour meter would be handy as frick.

Aren't you the one with more than 300k miles on a 2018? Are you some 400k miles now? I would be interested to see your total engine hours too.

correct. Nearly 322k now. Truck’s seen an average of 50 hours of run time per week over the past 4.5 years.

I need to find out the idle hours on my tacoma so I can change the oil based on the idle hours instead mileage since I don’t drive much. Is there a way to find out in 2007 Tacoma using OBD scanner or something?
