I'm a bit of a electrical noob, but for those of you who got the Amber Backlight:

    1) Is it easy to install and have an electrical line run to the fogs for the backlight?
    2) Were there instructions on how to do this in the kit?

I'm not sure, but isn't that part of the wiring harness they include? I'd be surprised if they made you wire it up yourself.

I don't have the backlit pods, but I do have the SAE amber pods. There are good instructions and I opted to pick up some H11 to Deutsche male/male pigtails to plug the lights into the factory harness without cutting or splicing - they were about ten bucks.

    DD makes great products.

Edit: I bought "universals" - I think your kit comes with the pigtails.

    1) Yes, it is easy to install yourself to run the backlight line.
    2) Instructions on which wire to tap for the backlight are not included in the kits as folks want their backlights to come on differently. Some want on with ignition, some with parking lights, some with DRLs, some never!

    Bonus time:
    3) Feel free to call me here at Hotshot Offroad whenever at 406-936-0206 and I can help you out.

Diode Dynamics makes a plug & play harness for the 3rd Gen trucks for the SS3 and Elite lights. I haven't been able to figure out if it works for the 2nd Gen trucks (or if it could be re-pinned for ours):

    https://www.diodedynamics.com/plug-and-play-backlight-harness-for-2016-2023-toyota-tacoma-pair.html

I did tag and ask the DD rep on here in the "Show off Your Diode Dynamics" thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/show-off-your-diode-dynamics.730665/ if there were plans for a similar 2nd Gen harness. I was told at the time no, but the request was passed along to their engineering team. Maybe if enough of us bug them...

Just tap into the corner/parking lights for the backlighting.

My DD SS3 ditch lights have the backlight. The harness I purchased with them has an on/off/backlight switch (3 position). I haven’t installed them yet but was hoping not to have to ‘wire’ anything outside of just installing the harness.

what do those skinny SSC2’s on the corner do?
Like are they worth it, considering the tasks of fog, ditch, and driving beam appear to already be covered?

trying to figure out if that’s worth it in a Paranoid Fabrications ARB bracket

Over just SS5 driving and fogs (or similar)

has anyone had those work as a turn signal?

so a third 2” isn’t necessary? Just wanted to find out from someone who knows

I get that either way it looks good and is a high quality light if not the best
plus it matches, fills out the bumper, and is cheaper than the bigger ones

i suspect front steel bumpers although slightly angled at the outside, may not be so angled that they can actually have a ditch light there vs A pillar aimed at ditch

I got the supplied wiring harness for my lights and it had a two position switch. Off, backlight on, or main beam on.

However, I hacked mine apart and ran it to my auxbeam switch panel instead. So I have a switch for the main beam and one for the backlight separately.

Some people like to run certain beam patterns certain ways. I have DD SAE amber pods in my ARB with the flood lenses wired as factory fogs, and I'm going to add amber spot 2" on the far corners, aimed a particular way, and wired parallel to an 18" combo bar for when I'm actually offroad at night or need to light up an area.

Just installed mind today except for the Amber Backlight wiring (I want it to run as DRLs) because the seller didnt provide any wiring diagram or instructions on how to wire it.

Has anyone tried installing it on a 2nd Gen Tacoma?

On 2nd gen if tied into the drl will the backlight also act as a turn signal?

    Yes
You'd need to add a relay to be activated by the same wire the Haz/Turn relay uses for DRL. That way the backlight won't flash.

They'll turn OFF when low beams are selected...unless you also add a feed from the parking circuit.

Could you explain in more details the wiring connection to the fuse IGN or turn/parking lights? I want them to run as DRLs. Thanks!
