If you can maintain physical security and don't lose it...yes.

Also, long passphrases are better than shorter complex passwords.

Only a matter of time before that's a thing with connected vehicles. Ford isn't helping their SD chassis sales with that technology.

I saw my dream truck today F-450 DRW super crew fleet side pick up, with a Detroit Wrecker style hidden wheel lift.

I'm staying with LastPass. As I understand it they do not have, and cannot decode, the master password. So the hackers still need to use brute force attacks for that. And I doubt my little old self is their target. My master password is pretty robust, pretty long, not guessable via any of my personal information. I think the odds of my passwords being exposed via the LastPass hack are lower than when I use them to access online resources.

I did read their analysis, and I did take the precautions they recommended.

I used that for years. My problem is that I want my passwords available on multiple devices and it is hard to do with that. I might go back to it for financial stuff and other hyper-sensitive things though.

10 years ago I'd say that, yes, that's a near-impossibility. But the advent of crypto-currency home-grown processor farming means that they can throw a lot more processing power at the crack attempt. Exponentially more.

Bottom line is that brute force efforts today are far more effective than in the past. I'm providing free professional advice - use it or don't.

Once a determined threat actor knows the precise algorithm employed, even long and complex passwords can be resolved within hours using a processor farm and brute force.

I consider myself to be fairly computer-literate, having worked in the industry in varying capacities for nearly 40 years. However, I understand next to nothing about how encryption technologies work. Does this statement mean that with a few hours of processing that an entire database of user data can be made accessible? Or might it take hours to break ONE individual users data encryption?

Here's the rub - they only need to break the "master" key to an individual user's account. Once they have THAT they can decrypt all other passwords using the apps' own code. So they're only focused on the master password. Once they unlock that they've exposed everything.

So, these outfits that are showing off how long it takes to brute-force a password are only focusing on a single processor. Yes, it takes 63K years for a single processor to break a long/complex password. Today, processors have multiple cores, each of which can be brought to bear. The more processors (each with multiple cores) you can add to the equation, the less time it takes. I've seen apartment rooms here in Austin (UT Students) used as crypto farms that had 200+ processors at work (thanks, Radeon) - and those were amateur outfits. Eastern European cyber criminal businesses really do treat this as a job, and they can throw incredible amounts of processing power at a password.

And since they also have all of the details of the user database (name, address, phone number, email address) they can cross check banking system hacks for a match and focus their effort there. Or look at Google Maps for very wealthy areas and see if they have any details matching those addresses, and then go after it. Most likely they look for signs that the potential victim is elderly because they tend to have the worst cyber hygiene.

It's a frightening rabbit hole to do research on.
