    My first post on TW!

I’ve had my 2022 army green TRD sport for about a year and have made a handful of relatively easy mods but am starting to get sick of the stock wheels and tires.

I have my eyes on some SCS wheels, size is 17x8.5 with a -10 offset and was thinking of running 265x70x17 tires with them. My truck is at stock height. From the digging I’ve done on the forums it seems some people have put these same specs on at stock height but most seem to say they had to do some trimming and/or remove front mud flaps. Ideally I’d like to avoid any trimming whatsoever and keep the mud flaps on too. Would a small lift create the additional clearance needed to avoid any rubbing issues? I’m leaning toward trying to do Bilstein 5100s all around with coils up front and an AAL in the back - seems most people suggest maintaining rake over leveling with the lift. If a larger tire size works with the lift I’d consider that too for sure.

Forgive my ignorance, but can anyone tell me if I sound like I’m on the right track to achieving what I’d like to do?

    Thanks in advance!!

Welcome. That’s a pretty conservative setup. Might have to heat up some plastics or mudflaps with that offset and width but 265/70 is fairly easy to run. I’m running 265/70 with a 2 inch lift and 17x8 0 offset

@908tacoma thanks for the reply dude! Your truck looks awesome. What lift do you have installed if you don’t mind me asking? I’m in NJ too but we haven’t seen a single snowflake all winter down where I am in Monmouth County.

I get the feeling that going with a zero offset wheel and maybe slightly less wide would be a much more seamless fit, but I haven’t found another wheel that I like the look of as much. Will the lift itself inherently give more clearance at that wheel size?

thanks. I’m running old man emu all around. SPC upper control arms. It works for me but I will probably end up with 285 tires soon.

i don’t think your offset will effect you that much so I’d run them if you like them.

Lived in Monmouth County for years, Ocean Township area but in Hunterdon now

While actually using the truck (other than driving in a straight line), a lift will not create more clearance for your wheels and tires.

The price you pay for a wider wheel and more offset is often trimming. An alignment can help as you can push the wheel farther forward. This can be best achieved by using something like SPC UCAS.

Sounds like you’d be best off keeping it at stock height and messing with a few plastics if needed. Good luck and welcome!

For what it's worth, I'm running 265/70/17 Toyo Open Country 2's on 17x8.5 Fifteen52 Analog HD's (0mm). I have ever so slight rub whenever I make a 90 degree turn into a parking lot and "bounce" the front end on the entrance apron. I'm completely stock otherwise on a TRD Off Road

Thanks for all your input everyone. Thinking since my primary motivation is new wheels/tires I'll start with those and see how motivated I am to add a lift once they're on.

I did some more research and thinking of pivoting to the Toyota bronze TRD wheels. Has the look I like and gives me a wider stance at +4mm offset but should be more of a seamless fit (I think) on stock height. Just want to avoid even slight trimming for now if I can. Those are only 7" wide but pretty sure I can still run those with 265/70/17s and have the all around look/ride that I'm looking for.

positive offset would actually bring the wheels in closer to the strut, not further. Negative offset pushes them out

Well what I mean is relative to the offset of the stock wheels (+30mm)

Also look at FSW (Factory Style Wheels). There are some 0 offset options that would work perfect for you on a stock tire size.

They have a wheel that looks like the bronze trail wheel you like.
