Why do Americans still use slotted screws ?

Robertson is old school in Canada bro , like been using them since the 80's

GRK screws is all we use now and we never strip bits or heads

My wife's tires prefer the Flange Head. 5/7 would recommend.

You can’t blame “Americans” when for many things we can’t easily purchase another option (or it costs significantly more). Anytime I have a choice and it doesn’t significantly increase cost I use hex head screws for metal and torx for wood (because hex head wood screws don’t exist that I have seen). I think the hex head screw is the best, you can get great torque, and unlike torx they don’t have thin metal edges that can be damaged from high torque.

Square is my second least favorite right after Phillips. I’ve turned a lot of squares into circles in my time if you know what I mean.

 

Robertson is the only type that is worth using. Square isn't Robertson. Robertson are tapered so that the screws don't fall off the bit. I find that Torx bits don't last as long as Robertson, nice try though.

 

I drive 16" and 20" x 3/8" GRK RSS screws into timber connections with torx bits no problem bro

 

But there isn't a 16" Robertson screw that I've seen. If there was it would be better.

You need them for a proper restoration on antique’s, they will add to the value.

 

Isn’t GRK just torx? Like a T10 I think. Star bits like Torx and others aren’t as durable. The fins start to wear down if you use any decent torque.

I still think internal hex is the best, but I don’t think I have ever used or seen a Robertson. I’ve always wondered who used the weird little square bit that came in my bit sets. I thought it was just an oddball security bit.
