I always thought the 2 door ones were kinda cool.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
For a 3.slow it's impressive if it has any compression

I always liked those wheels. I don't know why, they're kinda ugly, but they hit somehow. Must be nostalgia for the time period and being a kid. Kind of wheel I'd expect to see on a toy.

I don't think 2nd gen 4runners look bad or anything but the drivetrain options are totally lackluster and not much aftermarket for them compared to 3rd gen+

So, assuming I get this 4x4 conversion rolling, should I get a front locker or LSD installed as well, and which one?

Is there anything I can do to strengthen it's ability for on/off-road racing (ie: increase limit from 62mph in 4-Hi)?

there's no speed limit for 4hi, just a speed limit for how fast you can go when you engage it

once engaged you can go as fast as you want

Yeah I don't think they look bad either. A friends sister had a white one with the blue graphic. (same as below) I thought it was the coolest thing when I was a kid.

That contradicts what I found here: I guess it actually says 50mph not 63 too (assuming J-shift, which is what I plan on)

I've never heard that anywhere else, in the owners handbook it only says not to exceed 55mph when engaging. I've driven well over that in 4wd before a number of times

I have the little 4x4 placard in my 4runner which has the J shift, I'll take a gander at it. With my Tacoma (push button) it definitely only says to limit speed for engaging.

I've got no skin in the game with regards to front lockers but I would definitely do a rear one first over the front, rear end is a lot stronger and in most of my adventures I've only gotten into a few situations where the rear locker wasn't enough

Picked the dadwagon up. Healthy report. Leaning towards keeping it. Needs an oil change I'm sure, after sitting for undetermined period of time. Couple things like throw in new cabin filter, needs floor mats that aren't cloth.
Fun to drive even stock, super comfy. Definitely would/will benefit from a few mods, but no rush.
(Except some light tint. Black with clear windows isn't the best look. And I'm not a big tint guy.)

Here's a pic of the 4x4 card in my 4runner with J-shift...little beat up but it only mentions a 50mph limit under the section regarding transfer gear shifting

I can tell you it doesn't instantaneous explode if you engage it at 65ish

I almost bought one exactly like this, it was a base model 22RE 5speed. I kind of wish I had. I was freshly burned by my 3.0 4runner and didn't want the immediate reminder lol

I would run up behind them next time and drop it down the back of their shirt or pants
