Did you autogenously weld it last time, or use filler?

No filler, just a fusion weld. Would that make it weaker?

I’ve been told filler has additives to prevent the metal from getting brittle. I was talking to a guy on another forum about something similar, and he said his weld kept cracking. Someone else chimed in and explained in better detail why filler is needed everything it does. that’s the extent of my knowledge on the subject, someone or something on the internet told me filler is necessary.

    Hmmm…
My buddy that owns PPE, his headers are welded with filer.

Now being this thread gets more attention than the Performance thread. So would anyone have a link or can point to a larger volume fuel pump other than from URD? Believe it on not the Magnuson is running on the stocker! But I’m still looking for a skilled craftsman for the 5.3 LS install. I found one in Colorado Springs and one in the Dallas area. Truthfully I don’t even know what the 5.3 needs for volume, but that shouldn’t be hard to find out.

    Thanks in advance. :hattip:

I use a Bosch 044 but this is the updated version. I think it’s rated up to 700hp

That purely depends on the penetration of the fusion when autogenously welding. Without a backpurge or solar-flux, it is hard to get a thorough penetration without causing opposite side oxidation. This may be where your problem lies. Being the location of post turbo, you can get away without backside of the weld. Filler will help though. If you don't want to back-purge, then the Solar-flux and filler would be the next best and strongest option.

    Thank You!

Damn it’s been years since a friend and I installed the pump that came with the Rotrex system that I can’t even remember how it went into the tank. All I remember is measuring the depth and all we had was a die grinder to cut slots in the white plastic / nylon for the hose / worm clamps to hold the fuel pump. I don’t remember how it was wired or anything else. Then mounting the filter outside and looping the fuel lines. I feel like I’m in the early stages of dementia…

Sounds like I need to do some more reading on this! I appreciate the heads up:thumbsup:

I will need to use filler for the repair lol, it’s tearing itself apart, so maybe that will help too

I figured penetration would be pretty good since the metal on these pie cuts is so thin. I also think that may have something to do with it being weaker. These are ace race pie cuts. I did use solar flux on the insides while welding, but maybe I still got some oxidation going there even with that

As it stands right now I don’t have a good way to back purge so I will do the solar flux like normal and try using some 309 filler
    chocolate for me please!

In lieu of using a dremel or some other means to cut the stock fuel bowl, I used a flat head screw driver and heated it up with MAP gas, and then pushed it thru the stock plastic fuel bowl to make the holes for the clamps that hold an aftermarket pump. It worked quite well!

Well now.. no wonder it sounded a little throatier than normal

One crack went about half way around, and then if you look closely, there is another one starting near the flange

    Thanks Buddy much appreciated!

    Well,
There’s nothing written in stone but I think I got a guy lined up to do the install.?.?.?.

Believe it or not he wants to use the truck as a project on his YouTube channel. He’s in Sunset Texas.

If you have time, order you up some 347 filler rod.

I will definitely get some ordered but this sucker is getting melted back together so I can continue to daily it. If it breaks again before I rebuild it completely, the 347 will be used. Thanks for the suggestion :hattip:
