Nice! I'm on the fence between Grom/Monkey, but I'll most likely buy one this year. Frankly I'm leaning monkey only because if I'm going to buy something that is nothing more than an impulse buy, it might as well have a ton of character. I might have some movement in my day job pretty soon and that will be the catalyst for the purchase.

The Monkey is such a damned cool lil bike, If i was buying a honda mini moto today, it would probably be the monkey. Tho, loosing 2 up would be kinda sucky cus the GF and i do hop on the grom somewhat often in the summer to go to local stuff a mile or so away.

I found out today that the shorai battery in the DRZ is COMPLETELY dead. Push started it and it runs but the battery doesnt stay charged….so I guess I gotta add that to the list of shit it needs :pout:

However, i did get to take Alec’s TW200 across town and back…because when i started it it immediately ran out of fuel and had to be switched to reserve. I guess all she burnt up in 2022 was one single tank of fuel  So i took it to the gas station and filled it up.

You might be able to revive the lithium battery, the BMS in some of those protect it too well and wont let it charge "dead" cells.

I just bought a NOCO lithium for my supertenere and i gotta say their pricepoint is WAY better than the other big names

I'm looking at their tiny one for my Grom, actually. I have a Shorai in my CB750 going on five or six years and an Antigravity in my BMW that's 3 years old, I believe. All have done really well but yeah, pricepoint on the noco is absurd, $70 vs $120

I was wondering if that was you. I saw your name attached to some kind of fork spacer preload mod or something and thought huh, I wonder.

I've been keeping tabs on that site a bit since I bought mine, but it sucks there's only like a post or two a day. Absurdly low volume of traffic compared to TW or ADVRider (understandably, but still..)

Yeah ill be putting a noco in my grom when the current chepo agm battery kicks the bucket. I need all the cranking amps i can get with the bbk.

It used to have TONS more traffic but the initial wow factor of the grom back in the 2014-2017 era faded. FYI my fork spacer mod only works on the OG groms forks.

My winter project of sanding down to bare metal, repainting, rewiring and upgrading to LED lights on my Kendon standup is complete. 20 year old trailer looks brand new and ready for another 20. Can’t wait for Spring to head out somewhere.

Makes sense. Good for some historical info, but sucks with the 22's and 23's being a different engine, essentially. A lot of the info on there isn't super applicable anymore.

For suspension I got racing bro's springs and preload spacers for mine sitting on my bench I need to throw in. Also designed and 3d printed a set of the fork tools, so fingers crossed those work. Cheaped out and didn't buy the ohlins or fully adjustable racing bros like I should have..

I bought my brother the super sick shorai charger for his in his DR650, so i might take the battery over to his place and see if he can get it to charge now that you mentioned that.

If you were to do it all over again would you stick with the bbk or go with a engine swap

Naw id stick with a smaller bbk like i did. Much above the bore size of the 164cc and the cylinder walls get thin and the headgasket between cylinder and cam chain gally gets thin.

Hell if I had to do it over again with the better aftermarket support these days id probably stick with the stock bore, maybe a flat top piston, cam, ecu flash and exhaust header and call it good.

Edit - one thing no one talks about with grom high comp setups / bbks (that are usually high comp) is the need for premium fuel... Which on the surface isn't a big deal. BUUUUT when you only have a 1 gallon tank and almost all fuel pumps only have one handle to dispense you run into issues. Let me explain. You have like a 95% chance the person before you that used the pump got regular fuel. The hose holds roughly half a gallon or more of fuel from that person's fill up before it reaches the various grades disperse valves within the pump. You pull up, tap the premium button and fill your Grom up with at most and best case 1 gallon... Now you have a tank with a half gal or more of regular and the rest premium making a mid or low mid grade octane fuel.

Now on my setups big valve head I have reduced compression some by smoothing out the combustion chamber (which was to reduce hot spots for less propensity for detonation) so in a pinch I can get away with filling from the pump a nearly empty grom tank for a mid grade octane tank. But nearly all the time I plan ahead and grab a couple gallons in a can, but put a gallon or two of the "watered down" premium in the truck first to clear the line before filling my can with 100% premium to take home and fill the modded Grom as necessary. (Which for storage purposes always gets a dose of startron enzyme fuel treatment)

Had the new mirrors (Double Take) and a small tank bag show up in the last day or two. I will say, it’s nice to have two local places to get gear as well. Soooo, a New helmet and goggles purchased today as well.

it’ll do for now. I had to get something to get me on the road.

Ordered another pair of Michelin PR4 GT tires this morning to take advantage of the $60 rebate being offered this month. Need to source a needle and seat for a Mikuni HSR45 carb to help out my former brother-in-law. His bike has sat more than it's been ridden the past several years and he wants to start riding more again. I installed the carb for him many years ago so he's reached out to me for help.

    Was going through closets…

Forgot I had this, never wore it. I broke my leg back in 2008 and had other issues and stopped riding dirt. I remember I paid $179 for this helmet on sale somewhere…

Fox V3 James Stewart(new in bag), do helmets still come with bags, sticker sheet & extra visor?
