For sure. I don't disagree. I have no problem with removing the players that we did. Granlund as an individual is better than any of them. But I just don't think he's an impact guy for the money. We had an opportunity to land a splash player and didn't. And teams that are already better than us, and just as strapped at the cap, all made bigger moves than we did. Maybe there is another move coming. We will see.

I wonder what is was? They probably wanted Vancouver to keep $2M or $3M for each of the years on his contract to start.

 

I Googled this. Apparently Vancouver wanted a young center (American spelling, LOL), which the Pens don't have - at least anybody worthwhile, and a number of first rounders.

I would've thought POJ and a 1st would've gotten it done (along with maybe some retained salary.) That's what the word was at least. We certainly don't have any young centers to give. Could've given them Bluegar maybe lol.

Ya what's the story on Bonino? I keep seeing that he's coming back but didn't see the return. It's nothing to get excited about but he's a decent player. It at least gives us a better 3rd line that what we had, like you mentioned earlier. But not sure we will get Bonino magic like we had when he had Kessel and Hags on his wings lol.

 

Pens gave up a 5th and a 7th in the 2023 draft. Nothing much in my opinion. The "experts arte projecting Bonino centering Carter and Granlund. I also hear they want DOC on the wing.

It looks like no salary relief. Maybe that's why Vancouver was ok taking a rental is Zucker (will be missed) and Dumo.

 

Miller probbaly goes on malkin's line, replacing Zucker, who has been a warrior lately. @AJH387, you got your wish.

 

I was going to come back and say that maybe they want Bonino on the 4th line too, as a center, if they leave Carter at 3C. I guess we will see.

So we did get Miller? 2 firsts? I haven't seen this anywhere. Not sure about that.

 

People are commenting on Twitter this is bullshit. May be a false alarm. The title is Pgh Pens, but the Twit who did it looks like he's a troll. Sorry about that. Probably false. It didn't make sense that Vancouver would take 2 rentals. I really don't want to lose Zucker if the pens are serious about a run. he's playing great.

 

IF TRUE Thank goodness! There were rumors Canes would pick him up, with his upcoming 7 year $8 million AAV no trade contract next year changing to a modified move clause in 2027. He’s 29 years old, a lot of money to carry into his mid 30s. I suspect his value will be worth it for a few years but after that it’s a big risk imho.
“Miller is in the last year of his current contract that carries a $5.25 million AAV. Once it increases to $8 million, his full no-move clause kicks in. That’s good until the end of the 2026-27 season when a modified no-trade clause becomes a factor on July 1, 2027. At that point, the player submits a 15-team no-trade list when asked.”

 

Yeah, I don't see the value in trading for him with 8 years at $8M, with a no trade clause, as you mention. The troll must be wishful thinking. LOL.

 

Well that’s it for the Canes. we got Gostisbehere for PP help and the Fin Puljujarvi for potential apparently. I like our team we were 2nd on the league, and rather go with what we got than overpay on a long term contract that may not pay off or hurt our ability to keep key players like Aho or bringing in good draft picks in the future. Canes don’t build teams for a one shot deal, a long term winning strategy is the way to go.
