Looking to lift my truck in order to clear some 285s. I’m not looking to crawl rocks but I want something that would handle your everyday dirt roads and bumpy trails. Don’t want to break the bank either. Any recommendations as far as lift/shocks/coils, new UCAs or not, etc? Would I be good with preload collar lift kit? Also, why are thoughts about the trd lift kit Toyota sells. Thanks!

oh sweet summer child...if youre asking about rock crawling and a toyota lift in the same thread, you might want to consider learning about what you want to do instead of blindly jumping into this. that being said theres hundreds of threads on this subject.

Hey - I went slightly bigger (with 33s (mickey thompson baja boss 33/12.5/17)) - but would have done the same lift if I stuck with 285s (assuming on a stock trd 17" rim). I went with a toytec full suspension 2.5" shocks front/rear bigger leaf pack in the back. Worked out fine, cost $5k installed). In retrospect I'd spend more because good suspension makes all the difference in your day-to-day. I'm very happy with this setup but it could be better and is worth the extra money (if you plan on keeping the truck long-term). Cheaper shocks will need maintenance sooner which cost $, too. The only other thing to think about is your weight - if you know that it'll help with the install because the last thing you want is to set it up one way and then the ride hight (front-rear) is not what you're looking for. Hope this helps.

    Welcome to TW!

285's require cutting more than lifting. Tons of threads on this. Use Google search with tacomaworld in the search bar.
