So just got my first Tacoma and yep need to get new tires. CarMax replaced for safety but I can’t keep these Linglong replacements on there. I’m staying stock size and no plan to go crazy with lifts or rims or anything. I’ve got it narrowed down to Nitto Terra Grappler G2s and Sumitomo Encounter ATs. I hear great things about the Nittos but seems like not many people run the Sumitomos and trying to get some first hand input before I pull the trigger.

I know. I made it about 100 odd pages deep into the forums trying to avoid this. Just could not find anything on the Encounters. Which maybe the sign I’m looking for.

I've had the Nittos on 2 vehicles. A 1st gen tacoma and a 1ton Duramax. No complaints what so ever, I think they are a great A/T tire.

I have no knowledge or experience with the other brand you mentioned.

I have the Nittos. I like them and they perform well for my use. I’m no hardcore parkour off-road person, but occasional dirt trail, sand blah blah. Do well on pavement and rain. I did notice I find them more enjoyable at a higher psi, high 30’s, more firm but more responsive at high speeds with less sway / roll. Might be just my preference for slightly less comfort and better steering wheel feel and handling.

also, I’m no expert on tires in general.

If you couldn't find it here, then there's probably a good reason. Go with what you know is good.

Mostly on road/highway but want something that has good grip for the winter months as my job doesn’t close for snow. Also some light off road for family camping trips. Ran duratracs on my Jeep wranglers and had Toyo Open Country AT3 on my Sierra. But looking for something different as I don’t need something as aggressive as the duratracs.
