Have most of you that have camper shells purchased them new or used?

Do used caps pop up often? I've been looking for a used leer 100XQ for a DCSB forever.

Does anyone know a good place to look for used caps possibly other than on here? I'm south central PA.

I’ve been throwing around the idea of getting a cap also, I’m in PA as well.
Search FB marketplace, Craigslist, and Offer Up and extend your search area to a larger region. Just be prepared to drive pretty far if you find one.
They are such slow movers sometimes you can find them for dirt cheap because the seller just wants to get rid of it already.

    Check eBay as well.

I got my Leer 100XQ cap from Wildasin Enterprises in Hanover, PA. At the time I purchased it 10+ years ago they were the lowest price on Leer caps by far in the region. They are a small family owned and operated company. If you are familar with Hanover, they right next to Magic Elm Skate on Elm Street. https://www.wildasinenterprises.org/

I'll have to check them out, I am familiar with Hanover.

Also I appreciate the link! Do 3rd gen caps fit on the 2nd gen taco's?

I'm will to drive far for a used one depending on price. It just seems caps are really popular in the Toyota realm. A lot more popular than in the big 3 brand market. Every time I've found a used 100xq it's already been sold within days of listing. Depending on price I don't even care about color or distance, though would be topping on the cake if magnetic gray.

I've bought a few used caps in the past. If you get lucky and find one in the right color, or at least a color that looks OK you can do OK buying used. It used to be a lot simpler. Caps were pretty generic and would fit several different trucks, but now they are very specific to certain models and even years.

I feel like I remember reading that 3rd gen caps will not fit flush with a 2nd gen truck. The geometry of the back windscreen area is slightly different. But don't quote me on that.

Problem I had with looking for a used one is that half of the people listing them have no idea what make or model or year truck it came off of. So its a crap shoot.

Took me a while to find one, but when it popped I had to leave work right away and drive to Atlanta. Still almost got swiped out from under me... Good luck.

    I don't believe a 3rd Gen cap will fit on a 2nd Gen.

I’ve got a buddy that has bought two caps cheaply by stopping at dealerships selling used trucks with them. He offers to buy the cap off the truck and both times the salesman went for it because they claimed the trucks are easier to sell without toppers. Just another trick you might try, search autotrader for your color used truck and scroll the pics to see if any have a topper.

That is very true. My son is a sales manager at a very large car dealership and they have given caps away to people just to get rid of them.

I just got a used A.R.E. Topper for my 2007 DCSB here in No. CA. I found LOADS of used toppers for LB trucks but very few for SB’s. Paid just under $1200 for it and had put in another $250 or so to add side rails back to the truck bed (bought it used and previous owner had removed them for some reason), install, extra keys, replace dome light, etc. Still, I’m happy I got something for half price of new.

Best advice I got was to be patient and keep looking. Also, don’t settle for something less than what you really want because you’re going to have to live with it. Lastly, find a topper that was made for your specific make/model truck—otherwise you’ll never get a good fit/seal. Don’t be fooled that just because it came off a Ford Ranger or other small truck, it should fit your Taco.

    Good luck with your search!

here you go. This is for a SB. You didn’t say whether you have a LB or SB or what Gen you have.
    Good luck
