I haven't sold a car in over 20 years. How do I determine the fair market value of my Tacoma? I cannot find enough comparable first generation Tacomas for sale to figure this out and KBB is the only resource I know of. Online, I've seen first generation Tacomas listed for $7,000 to $47,000. Seems too large a range. Thoughts?

    Here are the details:

2001 Toyota Tacoma SR5 Extra Cab
    4WD, manual transmission
    3.4 liter, 6 cylinder, 5VZ-FE engine
    Deluxe trim
    235,685 miles

Leer camper shell with matching paint
    Tow package (hitch, receiver, wiring)
No rust (owned in California its entire life)
No accidents or body damage (nicks and dings commensurate with its age)
Original tan cloth interior in good condition, considering its age

Comes with tire chains, custom metal storage box, and various spare parts.
Wired for HAM radio antenna, including Rago Fabrication antenna mount
Runs well, A/C works, power doors and windows work.
    Small stone break in windshield.
Original stereo recently stopped turning on but I have not troubleshot it.

Nice to see a clean looking stock 01! So value... I know you're looking for a dollar figure and I'd like to give one but my thoughts on this are -

    1. It's worth what you are willing to let it go for
    2. It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it

It's the only real way to gauge the value of these trucks since they easily can command more than the traditional KBB value. I know that doesn't help - sorry. Maybe check local similar offerings and consider them when pricing yours. Also take the time to look around the First Gen For Sale area here on TacomaWorld. Might give you some ideas.

Good luck with the sale and welcome to TacomaWorld.

Largely depends on a few key things.

    Frame condition

    Verifiable maintenance history

Approximate number of flatulences in the cab

    How badly someone wants it.

If it were me looking to buy it and every box was checked, with your mileage (again, maintenance matters more) I would not offer above $10,500 or so.

    Just one man’s opinion..

Would need to know what has been replaced and when! Maintenance records are the key to value in these trucks.

Echoing the maintenance factor, one more very important point - frame condition. You know if there are rust issues. If there are, disclose them. Not saying you'd try to hide them but there are those out there who would and do. Don't be that guy.

There are deals to be had, at the same time give yourself 6 weeks to sell it and don’t get impatient.

Bay Area if clean exterior 12-14 easy. Sell now 10.

Took me 3 months to sell the bro-coma, but I got 6k over MSRP.

Yup! Seems like the Bay Area and SoCal have a premium on nice trucks. If the maintenance is up to date and the frame looks good, 10K seems like a fair number. Maybe higher if you are patient.

Solid truck, in state where u are…. I agree with what’s been said about $10K for an immediate sale and a few $K above that if u hang onto it and go fishing. Now out of state… I’d say you’d pull more like $8-10K unless it’s someone’s dream vehicle… but, that’s who’s usually after them. All day @ $10K, I’d fish for $12K. Good luck :1up:

You'll have a very small pool of potential buyers.

If you want to know the 'real' value, ask a CU what they'd loan on it. That's about what insurance would pay out as a total.

Consider if you have a buyer who borrows to buy, they'll have to have cash for whatever you sell over loan. Which is ok, but limits your pool even more.

If you have full maintenance records, it will help secure a sale.

Edmunds.com is another site to ponder. For giggles you could also run it through Carvana, assuming they'd consider something that old.

I'd just keep it. Everyone saying it could fetch $10-12k is probably spot on, and for that amount of money, you can't come even close to replacing the capability and reliability these 1st gens offer.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Start at $20,000.00 easier to lower the price then raise it.

It comes down to how bad the buyer is Over Come with Tacoma Lust.

Some buyers will just never see major problems !

I have never sold a vehicle for more then scrap price many I just gave away.

1st gen section doesn’t need that kind of negativity.

    I’d start at $25,000
Problem is banks and insurance companies try to decide the value of our land homes and vehicles
They get those numbers from an average of sales in there area compiled by people that have no idea what they are looking at.
All this does is make the things that should stand out as exceptional pulled down to the level of other peoples junk.
You have a nice truck and the numbers of them keep going down every day.
These trucks were standouts when new and still stand out today.
It’s not some junk Dodge it’s a 1st gen Toyota Tacoma.
    Aim high!

I paid $9k for my '02 TRD manual with 270k miles, it was mostly original with extensive maintenance history and the color combo I wanted. It needed some general maintenance but I planned on lifting it so everything got rebuilt at the same time.
