2 annoying issues with my truck...gotta figure them out.

first off.............just got my tires balanced this past friday..........and also got an alignment done. had to get the tires balanced(didnt road force them...simple computer spin) cause i hit a friggin huge ass pot hole on the interstate a while back, so i needed to get it squared away. the rotor on the driver side is warped because of the pot hole too. after the tire balance...............anything over 55mph.............truck shakes like a sumbitch. you can feel it all thru the steering wheel. did i ever mention that i absolutely loathe vibrations. minor ones dont bother me too much..........but this shit here is ridiculous!! i realize i may need to go ahead and get the tires roadforced.........but is it possible that if a rotor is warped bad enough, that it will make vibrations while accelerating/decellerating and of course while braking??

the other thing.............when i get on the throttle, acceleration is ok, but i can hear something and i can best describe it as sounding like a leaf or two in the ac vents, but its only while accelerating. anyone got a clue where i should first start looking??

 

Are you sure you didnt bend a wheel when the pot hole got in the way?

 

well, im not 100% sure, but when my buddy at the goodyear place put the tires on the spin balancer............i couldnt tell that it was outta round or anything. i mean, it didnt do any kind of funky wobbling that i could tell. i do have an extra wheel though if thats the case.

 

Yea I think you would have been able to tell asap on the tire balancer if you were standing right there. and the ticking when accelerating, that may be interference through the radio/speakers from the power surge when accelerating. sorry dont have a fix but i have heard the same thing on an Accord. Vehicles do funny things when an alternator/battery is going bad???

 

battery is good..............just replaced it a few weeks ago. will check the alternator and see if its dropping out. the sound during a acceleration is weird..............like i mentioned...sounds like leaves in a vent, but also kind of a grinding noise a the same time.

 

If your rotors were warped from the pot hole, then there's a good chance your wheel is out-of-round.

Get a WD-40 spray can with the little red straw. Lift the truck up and set the wd-40 down on a flat surface with straw againest the wheel. Rotate and watch the straw......

I had a weird shimmy/vibration at 60mph on my jeep and I found one of my wheels was 1/8" out-of-round.

 

sounds like a pretty cool trick. would even 1/8th outta round make that big of a difference??

 

at 55mph I want to say yes. def a good idea janster!

 

ok.......im kinda leaning toward it being a combo of the wheel maybe outta round and the rotor definitely warped. i hit the friggin pothole running 75.......and it was a huge pothole. almost made the trailer i was towing flip...and it put me into another lane. no way in hell i even knew a big ass pothole was on interstate 85!!!

 

one thing i forgot to mention...........when i balanced my tires....i also rotated them, so the wheel that hit that pot hole is on the driver side rear now. does it still seem possibe, even if the rim is outta round, to be getting vibes from it since its not on the front anymore??

 

will have you checked your intake manifold for any cracks? on my 98 i had a crack manifold and made that ticking sound that ur describing on acceleration

 

well....i feel it thru the steering wheel pretty bad................but i know my rotor is warped at the same time.....even when you brake marginally hard......it pulls to the left(side the pot hole hit) real bad.

i havent noticed any cracks.............and when i ran seafoam thru the brake booster line.....i did not see any smoke coming outta anywhere around the engine. is there a better way to check for a small crack??

 

i know this might sound dangerous, but when the engine is running take a lighter or torch around the area and see if anything happens

 

i'll try this as soon as i get a chance. if it does happen to be an exhaust manifold....."hello dealershits........my truck is under warranty.......and a good ol' wrap warranty at that...fix it"!!!

 

cool man..........i'll use my small bottle and torch tip and see if anything happens.

 

as for the vibrations go......................whats the possibility that,since i installed my complete new suspension, that the drive shaft angle needs adjustment........any possibility?? and for the center support bearing, which is about the only thing i can see that may use a lil adjustment....i could use a few washers on each side where it bolts up and see if that makes a difference.
