You might try making an adjustment to the pressure line. That is the one that attaches to the throttle body. Maybe try shortening it just a tad. Maybe just a 2-3 threads on the adjuster nuts to see what it does.

It won't. That's just the joys of a 3 link panhard setup.

We put all new bushings in. And upgraded links(they were actually really nice) sub links and panhard. Still does the wiggle.

Jeeps are the same.

But it's a 4 link.

And did it have a panhard correction? I understand those are necessary for lifted 4unners.

 

Its part of the design. The rear suspense on our trucks with leafs only moves up and down. If you were to watch the 4runner as the axle moves up vertically it also will also move front to back which is what gives the wiggle. Bushings should help but expect some degree of that feeling no matter what. I believe it gets more pronounced with a lift. The green 4runner I had wiggled way more than yours does.

 

We got one yes that was the upgraded one. Plus lowered it with different coils. Helped. But still swings.

It's more of a 3/4 link hybrid design. Not a true 4 link really. The top links are only like 12" long.

 

The wiggle feels like it's a bit of side to side movement to me. And it seems to happen with weight transfer, like coming out of a turn.

FWIW, the trucks axle moves in a very shallow arc. It is not perfectly vertical. Not knowing what the actual movement of the 4R's axle is, it is hard to compare and hard to know what the exact difference is, other than the feel.

 

Leafs also move in an semi-arc but it's odd because they flatten out as well, but that a front to back movement not side to side. The 4 runner wiggle comes from panhard geometry moving the axle side to side under the body. The land cruiser has better panhaed geometry (being wider helps the arc not be as steep) and doesnt have as pronounced of a wiggle.

 

Still a 4 link, but it's not a triangulated 4 link so it requires a panhard for lateral axle locating

 

Go flex is out and see how it the axle moves. I'm sure it'll be telling.

I always felt that the 4runner rear axle rotates around the Z axis. Like as the axle on one side droops it move fore or aft. That's what gives the side to side feeling as the wheelbase is changing, side-to-side over undulations. Certainly the leafs have an arc but it's negligible in comparison how much the 4link moves laterally. Just my recollection of it. Big picture is it's a unique feeling but not something that makes you feel uncomfortable.

It seems like replacing the 300K bushings might be worth it. If they are rubber, they are worn out. And you might find that it does reduce that wiggle.

 

SPC makes some nice replacement lower rear arms, the rubber bushings from toyota are hard to beat for the panhard and upper links.

 

Likely see my future there. But the front end is first.

 

Care to elaborate what you felt up front? Sway bar bushings the problem? The front did not feel wore out but we didn't get up to highways speeds much. I certainly think the front needs something. The green truck with a used leaking steering rack and balloon tires is way more responsive on center and need much less correction to go straight that your 4runner. Btw.... Lbj should be done too on your rig.

 

LBJs are a definite as they could well be originals. As you saw in the extensive documentation the PO had, there is no evidence they have ever been changed. But LBJs do not account for the front end wander which is minimal at slow speeds but very noticeable at highway speed. Add in a headwind and you better be on your toes or you'll be in the next lane before you realize it. Beyond that could include LCA bushing and or inner and outer TREs. I am not sure yet. Honestly, hadn't considered the anti-sway bar bushings. What are those?

 

Damn I had a set of white lines I should have sent home with you for the lcas. I can give em to you next time we meet up if youre interested. Planned to put them in the green 4runner but was so beat up by the green truck I never did.

 

Are the whilelines for the 4R different from the ones for the Tacoma?
